Have Truck, Will Travel
I found the historical marker and wanted y'all to see it.
Ever since I heard Brian Burn's song I knew I had to find the site. Go to West, TX, about ten miles south of Hillsboro on I-35. Go to the Villiage Bakery in the old, downtown area. Folks are friendy and the Kolaches are the best. On the wall of the bakery are photographs taken before and after the crash. They are very dramatic.
To get to the site, go south on the eastside service road along I-35 about three miles (yeah, they're two way). Just beyond Wiggins Road you'll see cell towers on either side of I-35. The historical marker is along the eastside service road a couple hundred yards south of the cell towers. The actual crash site was covered by the modern MKT line about one half mile east of the Interstate.
The marker isn't worth the drive, but West is full of antique shops and the Czech food is worth the drive anytime.
Happy Trails! N
