92 Toyota Landcruiser

Saw this up on CL again. I looked at it last fall when he had it up for $9k. I went expecting a totally mint cruiser for that kind of cash, but it needed help. At the time he was certain he was going to get asking price so he scoffed at my offer of $5k. I walked away. The interior and paint is in great shape and it could be real nice. Needs work, but nothing an experianced hand could not remedy in a solid weekend of work.

Here's what I found:

Leaking rear main seal

Shocks are totally shot. Looked OEM.

Needs a major tune up. Really doggy, yes I was driving several 91's and 92's at the time so I'm not just comparing to my 470.

Tires were fairly new but due to a bad alignment the fronts were wearing unevenly.

Needs new accessory belts and new hoses.

All fluids flushed.

Really really really bad "clunk". Not just the standerd LC clunk. This was major stuff. Tranny shifted fine when up to speed however and it wouldn't ever not go into gear. Not certain if greasing the splines would have done the trick here.

Nothing that would have prevented me from buying at a realisitc price, just been neglected. Could totally tell some Jiffy Lube mechanic had been "taking care" of it for him.

Guy was in total denial about it and laughed at my offer. Guess who's laughing now.

I always take a grand off the asking price just for improper grammer/spelling. If they are asking a grand then I suppose it's free and they just need it out of the yard! He doesn't even know how to spell the name of the city he lives in? WTF?

IMO this truck is WAY overpriced, LandCruisers are my life but... people always think its worth more than it is because they love it! So then dont sell it!

Anything is worth what someone will pay for it, but after you buy- dont look at the "For Sale" ads anymore; you WILL be disappointed!

Rant Off :flipoff2:

His original price doesn't surprise me. I saw a 93 or 94 in Spokane a couple of years ago that was listed for more than I bought my 97 and it wasn't nearly as clean and it had way more miles and 3rd row seats missing. The guy wasn't going to budge and he was sure he would get that price. I don't know if he ever sold it, but I saw it for many months sitting on the same lot. I wish I could have seen this guy back when we were visiting family in CDA, it would have been worth a good laugh.

Yeah, I'm trying to take the high road here and not shoot him off an email, but my willpower may crumble.
