My rear brake started making a clicking noise. It would stop if I pulled the ebrake, so I assumed it was a broken spring, or something in the e-brake mechanism. I got it apart and saw this! looks like I caught it right before it's imminent explosion.
When I did the pads about 6 mos. ago, I checked the rotors for smoothness but did'nt check the thickness. when I compared them to the new ones they only had about 2/3 of the meat left on them. I'm guessing they had been turned once at least. I think the cause was sticking calipers. They were sticking a little when I did the pads but I got them to free up. They're not sticking now, but it looks like it's time for a caliper rebuild.

Wow that looks familiar.

Christo & team caught one of these on my truck a few weeks ago when I had it there for re-gear.

Time for new rotors - change them both IMHO.

Oh yeah, already did

Were these oem rotors or aftermarket?

Were these oem rotors or aftermarket?

Mine were OEM and the crack looked just like that.

Mine are now drilled/slotted because that's what sleeoffroad had on the shelf and thats where the crack in my rotor was found. My rear calipers were seized as well and had to be replaced.

I only bring it up because I thought the crack in my rotor was a freakish thing. Now it seems more common - two inside of a month.

Wild.

Sticking calipers would cause the brakes to drag. Dragging brake pads would cause the rotors to heat up. Hot rotors exposed to very cold weather (around here at least) = cracked rotor.

At least that'd be my guess.

I'm guessing mine were OEM, had to go with after market replacements due to time/budget restraints

Yeah that's my guess, got super hot then ran through a puddle
