COYOTE FACTSHEET

btw, there's a 60# Husky/wolf hybrid (Fem) and an 120# Akita (Male) in my backyard. She gets in heat and I'm sure that draws them in.. The Akita'll take care of any fence jumping 'yotes though.

Happened to my sister, except my sis has a pit bull mix that came back covered in blood. When they washed him off not a scratch on him, the other 3 dogs really didn't help much. Her biggest dog just turned over and let the coyotes bit him, my sister had to take that dog to the vet for stitches. They carry a .38 now.

Around Montana we've found one easy way to keep the population of coyotes down. Wolves. They don't appreciate the competition and have decimated the coyote populations around south west Montana. That said, wolves are not good neighbors either. They are just bigger and more efficient killing machines. They don't seem to attack people though, at least not yet. Once they knock the elk populations down, I foresee them looking for other food sources and I'm concerned as to where they may turn.

...and she herd a noise. It was a coyote! It had crept up with in 4' of my dog, and is she said it was of a good size. She also said she yelled and it took it time backing off. ...

She should've yelled in Spanish...

ba da bing...

that dog had rabies i bet coyotes are normally timid and will not be seen
No, the bitch was in heat and the coyote was accustomed to humans not being a threat. Plain and simple.

my buddy and his pitbull were in the mountains, the dog was in heat but was being trailed by a wolf
.

Never bring a dog into wolf territory. Given a chance they will kill it even if you are next to it.

Ayup. As far as a wolf is concerned, your dog is just a small, weak, non-pack-member-wolf and must be removed from his territory. The drive to take care of the competition trumps whatever fear of you he might have.

Problem with that statement is wolf country is growing at an incredible rate. with packs of 19 or so wolves norht of where I live and wolves average around 5-6 in a litter per female, they will be everywhere, since they are an apex predator an all. But of course there is always winter kill and food shortages to kill them naturally but still they are pretty dang smart and advantageous. :confused:hmm is that a word?
