The huz and I have started watching Combat Rescue on Natgeo. I found it to be personally traumatic yet one of the most realistic shows I've watched. Hats off to these medics and their pilots - words cannot express my gratitude for the work they do. Anyone else watch it?

I watch it. Pretty good.

I'm excited about rhino wars starting on Thurs. You take 3 retired Seals and 1 retired Green Beret and have them go to Africa and hunt down poachers! Fxxxin outstanding! Happy hunting boys.

I generally don't watch anything "reality" tv oriented.

Only one i've watched through the whole season in the last few years was the out of the wild in Alaska and Venezuela. They were very well done but even those got on my nerves.

Only show I watch on a regular basis is Walking Dead.

Other than that its sports or actual history show not reality tv history shows or a good history or science book, if I have nothing to do at night or during the day.

I am really looking forward to this. This and Combat Rescue are my two new favorite shows.......Along with swamp people....yeah I know I know...I still love that chit.

Those Combat Rescue are just a bunch of pre-madona. Just like most of those Special Operations guys :) (cough cough). At least the AF guys that just left here. Our medics were just as good and if not better and we did some pretty bad ass water rescues a few weeks back with the smallest girl you have ever seen pulling a guy out of a tractor after being dropped in a raging river and then a one wheel night landing on top of a Toyota Hilux under NVG's in said river (talk about spatial disorientation) to have 4 guys jump in the side cargo doors before the water overtook them. s*** was awesome.

I will admit said pre-madona's had some sweet aircraft with terrain avoidance better FLIR and mini-guns on the side.

I cannot tell you how many times I've heard that about all of us AF guys. lmao.

Unfortunately with a lot of my brethern it's true. Bunch of whiney little girls. I catch hell all the time. I know when I was getting ready to enlist I looked at every branch. I ended up in the AF because I wanted to work on large planes to try to have something that would transition to civilian work....

conversation on any given weekend by one of my coworkers ever since my unit moved down here to Eglin AFB base.

AF guy- " Im SPECIAL OPERATIONS" Im stationed on Hurlburt"
GB- " You are Special operations? What do you do"
AF guy - " I am a fueler for the AC 130s"
GB -

Conversation I have had on numerous occasions with NAVY EOD

EOD guy- " I am NAVAL SPECIAL WARFARE GROUP"
Me - "Oh yeah?"
EOD guy- " We are OPERATORS just like SEALs"
Me- " what do you do?"
EOD guy- "Im a bomb tech"
Me- " What else do you do?"
EOD guy- "We specialize in diffuzing IEDs"
ME- " So you only do what I do maybe about 1% of the time that I am deployed?"

I can go on and on.
Everybody is Special Operations now a days and every body is a badass, but nobody wants to put in the work or commitment it takes to actually do and be .
I agree with Jason - there is quite a few pre-madonas in the Special OPS community SEALS are the worst offenders by a long shot.
I think it stems from stupid shows like this one. I wont be watching it thats for sure.

My 2 cents

Okay...this thread seems to have gone south. Any pilot, nurse, doctor or medic - civilian or military who works flight crew operations and medevacs critically wounded people is an angel. Say what you want. I was shot in the chest at the age of 14. It was an hour I laid on the ground, bleeding out. Its a damn miracle..the most beautiful sound I ever heard in my life?

The Lifeline helicopter landing outside. When they came in and took my BP I was tanking - BP was 60/40..I'd lost half of my blood supply and was slowly suffocating from an open chest wound. I didn't cry until the chopper door shut, and they were tears of relief. I clearly remember the male nurse smiling at me and telling me I was going to be okay.

Okay. I'm off my soapbox..now back to your regularly scheduled program :D

I think reality shows like this turns everyone that gets the camera pointed at them into a pre-madona. That's why I won't watch any of them.

I agree Del everyone thinks they are SF now days. I was just a plain ole USMC motor t mech never deployed and I had medical issues with my feet so they kicked me out after a little over 3 years. I still hold the title of marine and I'm proud of what I did.

I'm very interested in the sf culture and stories whether it be GB or seals or whoever. I read a lot of books about current and past battles. I just finished reading Lions of Kandahar an outstanding book. Nowadays due to technology and social media and the human thirst for cool stuff the SF guys have become very mainstream. Examples seal snipes saving a ship captain, bin laden raid. the unfortunate death of Chris Kyle have brought the secret work of SF into the public light.

Kinda rambling here but the the media show being a SF soldier is cool and the in thing. I damn we'll know that SF and seals don't do what they do for glory and media recognition.

I don't know hopefully someone will get my point.

Del thank you for what you do and keep up the good work! Jason I have no clue what you do but I know you are serving and thank you.

I enjoy watching the pj show. I know that it's glorified and changed for tv but it gives us pigs back in the states a glimpse of what is going on in Astan.

Now if some former spec ops guys wanna go save some rhino sin Africa I'm all for it but you know that it's just reality tv.

My .02$

As a group - US military are my heroes. There are always idiots in any group..My father is retired Air Force. My huz retired Navy. My mother US Army...my stepfather retired Army still working at the Pentagon. Everyone of them is flawed, just like me. Reality shows are crap but every single one of us has our exception due to personal interest. That doesn't make me blind to the human flaws innately glossed over in a show. Mad respect to be able to deliver lifesaving care in mid flight? F#@k yes.

Don't go thinking I'm mad...just a little passionate and a lot loyal.

And I'll prolly watch the Rhino Wars too...just for the weapons porn.

Ooops...didn't mean to start all that. I just wanted to get a rise out of Del and Darin :) sissy's :) hahaha just kidding guys. I miss you and your bunch a TON. As much as I make fun there really is a difference and I'm reminded of it every day being in the broken TV (3rd ID).

As to what I do I feel like I should post one of those "what I think I do VS what I really do" posters. I think I am bad ass helicopter pilot but really I sit in front of huge computer and multiple screens watching all the real Soldiers and Aviators due their thing. I'm lucky to get one one mission a week as an aviator outside the wire and out in the Panj. I think we get shot at every time luckily they can't aim worth s*** :) We only return with bullet holes once every few weeks.

You didn't start anything - no worries! But if you feel its necessary...you can owe me a beer :flipoff2:

Hell you own a land cruiser AND fly? How could you possibly be any cooler? So I've always wondered...did Xbox ever count as a prequalifying for pilot training??? ;)

Does anyone watch Justified? Outside of Walking Dead and Deadwood - I do believe its got some well written characters ( namely Boyd)

I have been on target with the sniper dude from the SEAL movie and instead of doing his job he was to busy taking promo shots for his portfolio or some crap like that.

NATGEO did an awesome story about RESTREPO and I believe it is also a movie. THAT was a great story and very realistic about the hardships of the Ghan. The real ghan. They also did a documentary called Inside the green beanies.
Both of these were great documentaries without being to "Hollywood" or "reality TV".

for the record-
I do not judge folks on the Occupation or Component. The only thing that matters to me is that you do your job and more importantly you do it profeciantly.
