I searched through about 9 pages of research results, and other than a few references, I could not find an exact answer to this question.

I have a 2000 LX470, did not come with a factory tow package. I understand that it is pre-wired to accept a plug-and-play wiring harness for a 4-pin harness.

I purchased a Hopkins 11141875 harness from Amazon as it states it is correct for "98-03 Land Cruiser and LX470", this is also what Hopkins website states. This is a 4-slot plug.

The Curt 55365 also states is works for the same model years, but is a 6-slot plug (4 slots used).

Now, looking under the truck, the only open plug I see is the grey plastic capped 6-slot female plug on the passenger side near the muffler. So can someone confirm that A) This is the plug which should be used. and B) The correct plug-and-play plug/connector for the 98-02 Land Cruiser/LX470 should have X number of slots.

I appreciate the help.

:princess:'s '01 came from the factory with a 4-pin flat connector attached to the bottom of the trailer hitch next to the receiver. Its connector is T'd off the harness running across the rear of the truck via connectors on either side of the T. I assume that provides power to the PS rear lamps. You can get a similar cable from trailer. Factory Wiring Diagram manual oem connector (NOT even close to a trailer connector) has 6 positions. 4 are used...left and right turn, tail, and ground. It's identified as "Ti5", pn 90980-10988.

You MY might have been covered by a TSB regarding brake wiring, fix was to add a Toyota towing converter.

Iirc, '03 was the first year for a factory brake controller socket, but you still had to run your own battery and brake wiring.

I installed etrailer 118365 by unplugging the factory controller harness near the muffler. If I remember correctly, it was grey - I can check tomorrow under the car if needed. Do a search for "118365" it seems like a popular item that several member have used here.

I think this gave me what I need. The eTrailer 118365 is a 6-slot (4 used) grey connector, same as the unused harness near the muffler. Watching the eTrailer video for installation, this is where they install (and add a grounding point). Solid future reference, you can use the eTrailer 118365 or the Hopkins 11141875, both are 6-slot (4 used) plugs.

Since only 4 of the 6 are used... what are the other 2? Power? Reverse? Thanks in advance.

Don't be shy to try the pins with a multimeter. Once you get to the connector, 95% of the work is done. You can set the handbrake and chock the wheels to test reverse without help.

If one of them is reverse, then it is simple to run a beefier +12V wire to the battery and wire in a dual 4/7 pin adapter like this: 4 pin to 4 & 7 pin adapter and be done with adapters forever. If one isn't reverse, it's a bit more involved to find and tap a reverse wire either at the bulb or in the wire harness somewhere.

To be clear, no need to start the engine, just turn the key to ON, you can then put the gear selector in Reverse and check backup lights, turn signals and running lights.
