So the wife and I went up to Copper Creek saturday. That place has really changed since I had been there last.
I borrowed the key for the gate from my rancher friend/co-worker, found out that I really didn't need it much. Getting to the gate was fun, alot of big rocks and was challenging. But just past the gate it was pointless to use a vehicle. The creek was so carved out. It made for a very enjoyable hike though. Here are some pics.

its been a few yrs since i was last at copper canyon, but i dont remember a gate, is it sorto new?

I've heard that too....what is the story behind that?

At the Mansion: Vandalism

Along the road to Copper Creek: Illegal dumping from locals. The road to CC is on Private Property and the land owner is responsible to clean it up (over and over again). I heard from the judge in Mammoth that this road was to be closed also.

There a couple roads that loop around the creek. One to the north that goes to bluebird mine and down and one to the south to Sombrero butte and up. They both dump near the mansion. However I do not know how they are. The one to the south was used by a quad earlier that morning.
The gate is about 2 miles from the mansion. The second pic in my second post is at the gate looking back west.

well its too bad they have to close thngs in order to save them from destruction. for me its not worth it to bypass the closure to get in there, no, i will just remember it now.

Has the area been closed to all traffic, or just motorized traffic? IE: Is the land owner OK with people driving to the gate(s), parking and hiking the rest of the way to the mansion?

I've heard the same stories about closure, but recently heard that they were all rumors and that the owner of the property actually closed it due to what he considered unsafe road conditions. I was told that he had spent some time out there with a D9 trying to "fix" the road but didn't complete the project in the amount of time he had available. His plans are to get back out there with some equipment to finish the job eventually but there is no time frame on this yet. I volunteered that CSC would be interested in helping out in any way that we can to help get the area opened back up for exploration.

Yeah I told you that story at Uroc, remember? The guy that rented the D9 from us is who I got the key from.
