Myself and some friends are heading to Copper Creek on Saturday morning. I will have the key to the gate on the south entrance so we can go check out the plane wreck in the area out east. We will be able to drive right up into the town site.

We are meeting at the Cheveron at Magee and Oracle @ 7AM

Bman sorry about the short notice, this is the one I talked to you about at Supercrawl.

No sweat man. The 60's finally a runner and I plan on spending the weekend puting down some needed miles for the break-in before heading to baja at the end of the month.

Next time bro!

Just curious which crash site that you are going to check out--the WWII era one or the more modern jet site? I had been to both quite a few years ago. Cruising the internet recently, I just happened to come across this link to the WWII site. It was quite surprising to read that both the pilot and the co-pilot survived!!

It's been 20+ years since my students and I were wandering the country up canyon from the "Mansion" and came across the crash sites so my memory might be pretty hazy. As I recall there is a pretty substantial corral upstream from the WWII site. Very near that corral, maybe even next to it, there was an engine from some type of military jet. I think that I was later told that the rough trail on the hillside nearby was put in from Four Mile Canyon to aid in the recovery. I was going to hike back into the area recently from Four Mile but got distracted and went somewhere else, so I can't confirm the location. If you stumble across it, I would like to hear about it.

There is also a jet engine sitting on a hillside just southwest of Basset peak on the Muleshoe/Jackson cabin road.
Nothing else, just a engine...Wonder if it just "fell off"

I'll be welding this sat., otherwise I'd love to go..

It should. I have a 100 but I wonder about the running boards. I haven't taken this loop of the trail, so I'm taking the Tacoma. I think you should go anyway.

Your 100 with running boards is good all the way through CC and to Sibley Mansion (if it were still open)(not the creek trail....the over the mountain trail). Nothing difficult except the creek trail (closed).

Cool. Good to know, thanks.

So.... anyone here going to go? If I don't get any responses tonight, we won't expect you tomorrow at the Chevron.
