At the tire store today and seen that Cooper has a Discovery S/T tire that is not P rated and not LT rated. They guy says its in between the P and LT.

The 265x75x16 diameter is 31.55. The OEM tire is 31.3 ( if I looked at the right tire on the Michlin web site. So the stock speedo gear should be close.

I have Wild Country RVT (the mud lug tire) LT285x75x16.
Its VERY heavy. I don't need a LT heavy duty tire at this time but still want an open lug side wall tire.
I will loose about 1'" of hight with the 265 tire.
The tire is about $20 chaper than the Wild Country.

Anyone running a 265x75x16 tire on their FZJ80?

It is about the same size diameter and a tad bit skinnier (good for snow).
Do you think my milage will increase if I go with the lighter smaller tire?

I ran a set of 265 75 RVTs on 16x7 4Runner alloys for a little while. Very skinny tires, but very easy to push around compared with the 285s. No opinion on the Cooper tire. I would prefer a STT.

Do a search and you'll find a few posts from yours truly on the S/T. Terrific tire and excellent in the winter. I have run 265/75s every winter for 10 years. Get the LT version.

I thought you ran Artic Alpines in the winter?

Late on this, I just got back from a trip. My bro talked me into these tires, got the 265LT 6-ply rated. Great tire, not much noise, wearing well. Mine are siped and do great in wet and ice. The actual tread is as wide as the original LTX 270 wide. I'm still watching for you on the road Kurt, got in at 5:30 this morn., loving that 80/94 construction.

I have been in MI for the last 4 weekends.
I deliver on Thr so will be going by Wen late afternoon and Thr morning.
They did a good job on the R/R track crossing :)

You guys run the ST al year or just in winter?

What mpg do you get with them? Is the speedo right on?

Eric,

Yep, I've been on 265/75's for 10 years. Studded, custom siped Dunlop Radial Rovers, custom siped and studded Kelly Safaris, custom siped and studded Cooper S/T's and now Arctic Alpins. The size was my comment in reference to his question. S/T's were excellent in all conditions, Alpins have been excellent also but astonishing on ice. Lots of other comparisons for another thread on winter tires, I guess.

I run the ST year-round. A guy I work with has them on his Avalanche, not siped, has no trouble in the winter.

Outside diameter is nearly identical to the originals, no speedo correction needed. Mileage is about the same as with the LTXs. A little more noise, a lot more traction.

How late Wednesday? I usually get home around 4:30 - 5:00, depending on the headwind and last - minute projects.

I was thinking of going the UP route this time as traffic is getting a little backed up in Chicago :D
But if you want to show my your ST's I can fight the 4wheelers.
It would be about 6 or 7 your time when I drive by.

Called the tire store and asked about the Cooper Disco ST. The owner said to stay away from Cooper Tire at this time due to all the lawsuits and recalls.
It doesn't look like the ST is in the recall. Don't know if its in the suit.

I saw that there was a classaction lawsuit on my Wild Country tires but I bought the tires after the date of the suit.
I didn't know Cooper

You can check your tires for recall at

I don't know if I should go with the ST or not?
