A day like today...100+ degrees. How long do you think it should take before an 80's temp gauge starts to drift up when sitting still. Direct sun and A/C blowing?

Not sure I understand your question. Do you mean a cold engine? If not, my 80 can idle forever in the sun with the a/c and never get past 1/3 of the guage.

no not a cold engine..."1/3 of the gauge"? is this pre or post gauge fix? I wonder if the 3fe is different? My normal is 1/2.

OK, maybe I'll ask a different way.

3FE
New Toyota Tstat
New hoses
1 1/2 radiator
no leaks
Flow good.

Drove to pick up my daughter this afternoon from school, so the engine was at full temp. Sat in line with engine running and AC on for awhile. After about 20 minutes temp started to rise a bit from normal (1/2 on my temp gauge) once I started moving again everthing was fine. Is this ok or do I have an issue somewhere else?

I was at Kevin's shop and he was helping me do my sway bar spacers and stuff, and my truck idled for 4, maybe 5 hours with the AC full blast with my kids inside. I bet the outside temp was at least 100 degrees. Didnt overheat, or get really hot.

I would say the fan isn't cutting it. Can you stop it with the engine running? Might be time for new fluid.

I'll check...Kevin helped change the fluid about 2 years ago.

I do have a broken shroud, about a 8" chunk on the top that the PO broke. I can't believe that would be enough but maybe I'm wrong. I'll fab up some fix for it until I can find another one and see if that's the issue.

Sounds about normal, when idling with the A/C on, in our summer temps, there is going to be some heat soak under the hood. It's hard to tell much from the stock gauge, it has a big dead spot in the middle. The hunk of fan shroud missing isn't going to help fan efficiency.

Do you remember what we put in your clutch? Two years ago I was being pretty conservative with viscosity and don't have much data on the 3FE setup. It maybe worth it to swap to 12,500, I have plenty of it?

It was at the last wrenching day...I don't remember what we put in it but the 12,500 sound familiar.

I thought the gauge in the 91-92 were ok and the one after that had the dead spot?
