This is a bit of a story - so will try to keep it short.
1. LC 100, 04, 146K. Looked like alternator died (disconnect the battery - car stops running) - took it to local dealer (not the one where I always take the car) as I did not want to tow. They replaced the alternator - I assume it was needed, but no way to double check. This happened on Sep. 02
2. Few days later - check engine light comes up with P031 - I reset - comes back - figure will ignore for some time as it is low voltage in oxygen sensor - oh well. will not run perfectly optimized.
3. Oct. 11 - wife drives the car with kids - calls me up saying that it does not behave right - engine light is on - but I assume it is oxygen sensor - so tell her to ignore - car stalls, has steam coming from the hood - gets towed home. Has a bunch of codes about solenoids in off position. Does not move when put in gear.
4. I get it towed to the local mechanic I trust. Notice puddle of transmission fluid under car and hope for the best.
5. He pulls skid plates and sees coolant lines pinched/ruptured. Replaced broken pieces with new sections (did not replace the whole line). Refills transmission fluid, test drives, fills more - and now truck seems to be fine.
Now... I am going to make a huge stink at the dealership as they clearly messed up. Even though I doubt I can prove it - as mechanic did not take any pictures of the cooling lines.
Here are the questions I have:
1. I did not see any mentions about coolant lines to transmission in LC100 rupturing. Truck does not go off road - would it be a valid statement that this failure should not happened under normal conditions and it is likely happened because tech at the dealership slammed the skid plate and pinched/deformed the lines?
2. Do I have a significant risk of transmission being damaged? A750F is reliable, but how well would it take loss of transmission fluid? I know - no guarantees - but what are the odds?
3. Is it ok to have only sections of coolant lines replaced vs. replacing a whole line?
4. What should I try to get from dealership: reimbursement for repair/towing charges and both coolant lines? Commitment to fix transmission if there is a problem in the future? More for my pain and suffering? Having two kids in failing car and having this whole ordeal was no fun - particularly realizing that I might be out $4K for transmission replacement.
Thank you for reading and advice!
