My wife was driving our hundred yesterday when she said the VSC light and check engine light came on. She was just getting home and when she parked smoke started coming out of the engine compartment.

I came home and discovered a large amount of coolant on the driveway. I looked for leaks but couldn't find any. The reservoir to the side of the radiator was empty, radiator was full and it looked as though the fluid came from around there.

At this point, I refilled the reservoir and still didn't find leaks. Truck idled fine and all the lights are off. I'm thinking when the engine gets hot, there is a pressure build up and it's being released somewhere. Any chance water pump could contribute? Anyone experience similar problems?

Check the two drains or drain cocks on either side of the engine block. You can find there location by searching, "drain and fill cooling system". Check all hose clamps for tightness. especially if any are the screw type.

Had a leak on the back side of the lower radiator hose where it connects to the engine. Was hard to see and leaked a fair amount until tightened.

If you have a bad hose(s) or water pump the problem will return. Look for pink stains if you're using Toyota Red coolant.

i had a leak that surfaced like this as well, it turned out to be a crack along the plastic front of the top of the radiator. it would only leak under pressure, when the engine was hot.
