After reading all the threads on the heater hose failures, I decided to replace my heater hoses, hose T fittings, and radiator hoses. I plan to reuse the hose clamps. Truck is a 2004 with 150k on it, but its in Texas and we tow sometimes. I'd hate to have a hose failure.

My question is if I drain the radiator and both sides of the block, how much coolant should I purchase to refill it? I will use the red SLLC from the dealer. I know it holds 16.2 total but not sure how much will come out with just a 3 point drain.

About 3.5 gallons, more or less.

Might be interesting to see if you can get any more by removing the rear heater's hoses at the rear heater.

We tow here in Idaho, too. ;)
