I can see the rows of fins when I look into the rad. Should all those be cover d with coolant? Or, does it need room to expand? Any issues with mixing new off the shelf red coolant in with the existing? If so, what coolant should I grab at NAPA?

Here's a recent thread on that topic. Radiator should be full to the cap. Expansion tank should have coolant between the low and full marks. I recommend using only the appropriate Toyota brand coolant (but others will disagree).

Coolant level in radiator

After replacing my heater Ts, I added coolant to the point where my fins were covered. After multiple heat cycles, the coolant level in the overflow tank has remained constant so it doesn't appear I overfilled it.

Adding coolant is fine but I personally stick to the Toyota LL premix. Good luck.

Sweet, another trip to the toyota dealer.... At least it's only 10 miles away. I'll fill it up and call it good. Thanks for the help!
