Selling my BJ42

Hey Guys,

Been lurking around the forums since I bought my 42 about 3 years ago from Justin. Lots of good reading on here, and is been a blast reading ideas and tweaking things on the weekends.

Due to the changes in the truck market, I decided to let Ford keep my 06' 1ton PSD at the end of its lease term back in March. Subsequently, I moved into a smaller car new 2.0 TDI Jetta (I've been doing about 65k/year of city driving recently, so...). Well, after 4 months without a real truck, I'm having reservations about that now. I can't believe the amount of times I took for granted, having a full length roof rack and a sizable box to carry stuff in. Need to move furniture, ok no problem - I'll be there. Need to tow that 6000# trailer, no problem - I'll be there. Not any longer...

So I'm contemplating a bit of a side step, over to a 1300 series mog. This move would most certainly require my selling my 42, three vehicles in the driveway doesn't really work that well...

Not something I'm happy with, but its the situation I'm in :( At least I'd be able to keep something going for those forestry service roads and the occasional back country trip I do. Right now, I still use the cruiser as a daily driver, and alternate it with the TDI.

So anyways....

I'm in no real hurry to let go of it, but if anyone is interested, its a 1981 BJ42 4spd with an Aqualu tub, OME susp, fiberglass ambulance doors in the back. Visually its a 9/10 and in mechanically in good shape (If you are picky like myself, there is always something to work on). Note that neither Justin or I have have been able to get an accurate understanding of the # of KM's on the vehicle. When I got it, the odometer was stuck on around 250,000 k. I replaced the speedometer cable recently and I'm still not getting any movement on the speedo. I suspect the plastic gear inside the t-case needs some TLC. However, in the process of cleaning up some electrical gremlins, I have since bough a new cluster and its completely zeroed out.

Bottom line is that I have no idea of the actual number of km's on the chassis or engine - its certainly not new, but its not tired! I'm going to keep the posting to this group for a while, before I take it up to craigslist. I'd rather this truck go to some fellow cruiser head, than someone interested in taking it out to Stave to beat the crap out of it.

I'm an anal electro-mechanical type of guy, so most everything on the electrical side has been gone through and brought back to spec as far as the FSM goes. Some other light duty mechanical work has been done to ensure all is well.

EBI has seen it a few times since I acquired it, but I haven't had a need to go back for a while....

-New rad
-New water pump
-T-case rebuild from EBI
-New glow plugs
-New filters, etc
-Re did the wiring harness for headlights (back to FSM spec)
-New voltage regulator NS2 (high end unit from ample power products)
-2x optima red tops
-40A DC to DC converter from ICT (again decent quality)
-A couple of speakers on the roll bar
-Alpine Deck & Amplifier for sub (although I need to wire this back in to the ICT converter)

If I don't get any serious offers, than I'd keep it for a while and probably get around to doing the following:[/B]

-re-enforce the frame just above the rear, driver side, spring perch (starting to flake away)

-replace throw out bearing (been noisy for 3 years, just haven't bothered dealing with it, as I've just put up with the little bit of rattle)

-get a new 24volt windshield wiper pump (never had working windshield wiper pump to date)

-power steering upgrade

-maybe work on turbo :-)

-install 24Volt trailer kit, so I can actually pull a trailer around

I'm asking $16k. If anyone wants to come around and take it for a spin, give me a buzz and we can tee up.

Thanks
