Not very knowable on the Toyota PTO winches for the 40 series especially in the possible differences in a RHD winch set up compared to a LHD setup if any.
The 45 in question is a 82 FJ45 and is RHD so I would start there.
I found a winch for around $900 bucks locally but its just for the winch itself nothing else, no shafts, no gear or shifter for the split case.
The winch itself is complete and rebuilt to usable standards (seals and such). Would this be a good deal to start with if usable for a RHD?
Not sure what year gearbox is used with the newer split case 4 speeds. I think I remember reading that an older PTO gear in no compatible with the newer split case set up but all the PTO were all basically the same. Correct me if I am wrong.
Before someone asks why a PTO over a electric, just like the simplicity of the PTO without the possibilities of electrical faults and ability to work in water or mud.
Any schooling on the stock PTO is more than welcome.
Thanks

You need the splitcase gearbox( rare) ( I actually have one I might sell, everything else is compatible lhd to rhd. I just sold a complete setup for $650! ( early gearbox)

PM me if interested with your price for the split case G/B. Not sure if I could afford it right away if I go for the $900 winch that would put me on the wife's "you can't buy anything else for three months" list.
Without a picture of the winch in question but with its description of being cleaned up and functional would you think $900 is a fair price?? This is of course local so no shipping is involved (100 miles) which is good.
Glad to hear that RHD is good okay.
Thanks

Well seems a I am an owner of a Toyota PTO winch. Finalized the deal for a lot less than that what he was asking, seems as he took it in trade some time back and thought that it did not need anything else (not a Toyota guy). I explained that it need more parts to run it, the price came down drastically.
I am sure I will have more questions and requests for parts (shaft's and so on).
Question on the gear box for the split case, can one use a G/B from a other type Toyota PTO system that will work......just wondering.

A regular gear box can be modified to fit. And there are two different types of pto gear drives. Forward /reverse and engaged /disengaged.

Pic. Sorry. One on left is one piece case one on right is split case. Im not knowledgeable yet to know if my split case pto box will only run in reverse yet or not

I'm far from knowledgeable on the PTO parts so you have just helped big time. So the split is a single gear just for forward. I will have do some studying on the gear modifications from one piece to a split. Pictures are a big help, thanks.

No. There are two different split case pto drives. One like pictured on the right which is engaged or not and one like on the left which is forward neutral reverse. The one on the left can be modified to fit a split case tcase but came off a solid case. Clear as mud yet?.

And you have the pto gear so thats good

Would be nice to have the forward and reverse.
Thanks

The forward reverse box is constantly meshed with the tcase. Engaged disengaged is not constantly meshed.
