So, this month I had to take my LJ79 for a roadworthiness test and to my surprise it failed due to a non-functional rear left brake. I went home, opened the drum and found the shoes covered in what seems to be diff oil, but just enough to contaminate the shoes and not even dirty anywhere else or leak out at all. All rear seals where replaced a while back when I replaced my rear bearings, along with all braking parts.
I decided to clean everything, clean the shoes with alcohol and torch the linings. It worked pretty well, you can see the oil being pulled out and burned off. I did this cos I don't want to put a new pair and find them contaminated again. Everthing seems fine now and it passed the retest this morning. Will keep an eye on it now.
My suspicion is the new seal might have leaked abit until it settled in, and then stopped. Had a similar instance happening to me with a new transfer output seal. What are your thoughts ?
