I'm reading as many threads as I can about this vehicle. I didn't know much about it but a friend has one that I can get for a very reasonable price. It would be to replace my wife's 2015 GMC Acadia Denali which isn't a bad vehicle but the lease is up. I don't know what to buy her right now that isn't $40k+ and still has room for our two kids. We don't drive far at all (work within 3 miles of home) so the fuel mileage isn't a deal breaker.

My concerns are just how weak that 4.6 is. I read as much but it's being compared to Yukon Denali's (6.2 V8), Benz and some of the other boys with big motors. Is there any simple add-on's to give it a little more ump?

Interior seems bland, but I know Japanese vehicles sometimes seem that way. I haven't been in it yet. Opinions about the interior?

I'm hoping for reliability. It has around 64K miles and the warranty is gone, so I would be doing all the work.

Any other input on the ride and other features of this SUV?

4.6 is not a weak motor, will run forever and does not need a timing belt replaced. Solid build quality ( built in Japan) same platform as the 4Runner with many giving 300k of service. Just
Basic stuff like fluids, filters, tires and brakes.

If you are comparing yukon denali to gx460 that is not a fair comparison in size, power, and capacity. You should head over to 200 series forum, lx570 which are priced nice in the used market and offer a bigger engine to accomadate your power needs.

You will be a little disappointed with the acceleration compared to the 6.2L V8. The big difference is the build quality and reliability. If you don’t mind turning a wrench than this is a great vehicle. Your your wife’s Arcadia Denali isn’t really an SUV in my eyes. It’s built as a unibody vehicle with independent suspension. The GX460 is built like a truck with a frame and rear axel. This will help out with towing compared to a car like chassis. It also has a true AWD system that sends 40% to the front and 60% to the rear. The vast majority of vehicles that claim to be AWD only send power to the other wheels when they detect slippage. It’s more of an on demand system.

The ride quality and comfort amazes me each time I take my GX460 out for a drive. It’s built first and foremost as an off-road vehicle. The design criteria was to handle 3rd world roads that are less than ideal compared to what we are used to in the US. It’s a Toyota Parado and in the Lexus lineup it gets the premium upgrades to the Parado vehicle.

Not to mention it is built in one of the best plants in the world (Obsession rules at Lexus flagship plant)

What's the difference between Premium and Luxury trim levels?

What's the difference between Premium and Luxury trim levels?

If you are looking at a 2013 premium is the top they didn't offer the luxury until 2014+ models. If I understand it correctly the 2013 premium is equal trim level to the 2014 luxury if that makes sense. My 2013 premium had the adjustable suspension and several other bells.

You don't by a GX 460 (or any Toyota/Lexus product) for speed...
You buy it because you want to keep it for a half million miles.
If you want to go fast, just lease a vehicle and turn it in every 3 or 4 years, get a Land Rover, Benz or American, because 3 or 4 years is about all they'll last and if they last longer the resale will be in the toilet.

I've had two 100 series LandCruisers both with over a quarter million miles on the clock and now just purchased a 2013 GX 460 and I love it (okay, maybe not the rear door...)

I purposely went with the 2013 because it is the last year before the spindle grill (big huge grill from top to bottom) and there are not any off road steel bumpers for the 2014's and up with that grill.

I bought mine with 38,000 miles in mint soccer mom condition for $32k about 2 months ago. Never off roaded (yet ;)), never had the sun roof open (with all due respect, she was a Korean mom and many Asian women often avoid the sun as much as possible, no disrespect intended towards anyone). Still had the plastic on the door tread plates and behind the outside door handles!

In short my wife and I love this thing! And looking forward to a lot of off road adventures.

Grabbed a deal on an 18 GX460 to replace years of Honda Pilot replacements (Boxy ugliness) for my wife. She tends to get into accidents alot, mostly her being hit, so something large was in order. She loves it and has been rear ended twice, both minor damage fixed under offenders insurance. One car that rear ended her was totalled.

It's a tank and unstoppable in any weather, after upgrading tires from OEM junk to Michelin Defenders. I would imagine it won't start rattling and buzzing after 50K like the Pilots always did.

When my 13 year old gets her license in 3 years an older 460 may be the route we go based on safety alone.
