Before the days of gel inserts, nut-hanging split saddles, and crazy gram-counting insanity (just take a s*** before the race, eh?), there was the best saddle ever. Behold, the Concor:

I use a Concor just like this- comfortable, light and cheap

but I also use a Selle Italia SLR, which is my favorite saddle. I've tried a ton of saddles and it's the best for me.

I've had the older versions of the Selle Italia Max Flite for years. When I replace the Merckx next month, I guess I'll try the new cushy version:

The Brooks are super comfy if your ass can handle the break-in period. I never had the patience, but I understand the reward is well worth the break-in.

I rode Flights for a few years too, mainly because they were free and a required part of the kit. They weren't uncomfortable, but they didn't fit me like the Concor. For me, a seat's comfort comes not from its padding but from its shape. Edit -- then again, I don't weigh as much as the typical mudder. ;-)

yeah... at 260+ geared up, the "break in" period ends about as soon as I put ass cheek to saddle. Mine was instantly comfortable and has just gotten more so as I've logged more and more miles on it.

260? what tires and tubes do you use?

Off Road?? WTB Weirwolf up front, WTB Nanoraptor in the back @ 28 and 30 psi respectively. Never flatted since switching to 29er.

I ride Kenda Trekker 700cx48 touring tires on my 29er commuter. Not sure on tubes, I think they're bontrager... never much paid attention.

I road the Concor back in the day as the kids say. It's cool they are bringing it back. I made th switch to Flights and really like them a lot. I've thought about trying the Fizik Arion but haven't gotten around to it. I did really like the raised part on the back of the Concor as you could slide your wieght against it when climbing. I went to the Rolls from the Concor and found it slightly more comfortable- still have an old white, perferated Rolls with gold plated trim- bling!

I used to ride a Cinelli Unicanitor road saddle in the '70s and 80's. You know the kind: hard plastic, with some drilled holes and no padding. Gotta be young to ride that seat! Now, I only ride MTB and have a Selle Italia Flite Gel. No split saddle, etc. This saddle is much improved from the old version, as its nose is more slender. It seems to give me much more finesse when weaving my way through baby head rock gardens. I don't have to use much body english at all with this seat.
