A new toy. Now to learn how to use it and more studying for the test.

I remember doing my test out in Chilliwack years ago and the material was more geared for folks wanting to build their backyard antennae and command stations; very technical and all I wanted to know was the protocol for radio conversation! :) One of these days I'll get my HAM license plate as well.

Which model?
Kenwood TM-V71A, Becky got it for me for Christmas. I recently learned that, at least for my purposes, I probably should have exchanged it for a LMR/Commercial radio with that recent deal the 4WDABC has setup , but it's in now.

apparently the LMR can be programmed with HAM frequencies, but you can't (legally anyways I guess) program the HAM with the RR frequencies, or something along those lines.

I had a lengthy chat with Matt Ion; this is one radio suggestion if one was to go the LMR route TK-7360HK – Vernon Communications - https://vernoncommunications.ca/product/tk-7360hk/

hah, yeah exactly. I posted a rant in the local Ham facebook group after doing some online practice tests, and getting annoyed by all that crap about tech info for building a radio...wow did that escalate :)
I did get a lot of PM's after that about "**** those dinosaurs, just run it"

My BJ42 is 24V so I run my radio through my 24-12V converter. But the wattage on 'High' is too high for my converter, so I have to run it on low. I'll have to upgrade the converter if I want to singe the trees when I transmit. LOL

That TM-V71A looks like a VERY NICE UNIT!

You should be able to tune your radio to the road frequencies. Even just listening in to know when to pull over is better than nothing.

And if you get one of those yellow square plates with above your front license plate and you'll fit right in with the resource traffic.
