Hello, new to this forum. I have searched a little, but most responses stated something similar to this: "Can't help on the compressor issue, but...."

I am looking to do my own body work. I have decided to use a HVLP sprayer..... What compressor would work best. How many CFM and or PSI will I need to do an okay job. I do not want to rewire my garage, so I need 110v.

Thanks, Lou

You're pushing it with any 110 unit as even the better ones will have a tough time keeping up with an HVLP gun. However, IR does make a compressor with a 100% duty cycle which would probably work:

FREE SHIPPING — Ingersoll Rand Electric Portable Air Compressor — 2 HP, 110 Volt, Model# SS3R2GM | 3 - 10 CFM | Northern Tool + Equipment

I was in the same boat a few years back and ended up wiring up a 220v compressor - really not that hard to do.

More info that may be of some help: http://autobodystore.com/compress1.shtml
I would encourage you to buy local - as compressors are fairly heavy and it's nice to have a brick and mortar store if you run into problems.

Good luck with your project.

Sweet Jeebus! $600 is a little steep for my budget. But I thank you for the links and advice. Hmmmm, probably gonna have to come up with a different route to paint "Godzilla".

HVLP. High volume, LOW PRESSURE. Hell, back in the day before I knew any better, I painted with a horse and a half craftsman compressor that was at least 20 years old. Plan your work, paint a side or section at a time, you shouldn't have too much trouble. Ideally, buy the best compressor you can possibly afford
