New guy here with an early FJ40 that seems to have much of the crossover parts from the FJ25s. Been closely watching/reading Foxfab's restoration of the 59.

Would an early 40 (mine is a 61 by the VIN) have the frame painted the body color like the FJ25s or black like the FJ40s? From the attached pic you can see that below the black paint is a blue/green paint, then the steel. On the rest of the body (multiple crappy paint jobs) I can find red, and also that blue/green.

Also what is the green paint code or color name for the generator and starter.

Thanks for your help.

That is a pretty early 40, production #917 if our thinking is correct.

That green on the frame looks like the 25 green. I think the early 40's were painted the same as the 25's.

Mike Fox had some paint for the electrical mixed, maybe he'll chime in. I'll see if there's a code on the can.

Try checking the frame rail near the steering box where all the built up grease is...the frame horns can get a lot of attention over the years from POs with paint. 25 frame primer is yellow, maybe on E40s also? I'm pretty sure the frame on my '62 is black, I just never thought to check the frame color of my '61, #487 or so...

Looks like the frame is black in another area.

Also, attached a better pic of the generator once I got it off and cleaned up a bit. You can see the original green color and the tag cleaned up well. Anyone know where to get them rebuilt? Hate to just clean it up and paint it the correct color and then nothing works inside.

Most any auto electrical shop should be able to do a rebuild, or at least a test and refurb...look for the old guy in the back. Or get a Hemmings and look in "services" if you want to send it away...might as well do the starter and voltage regulator if they are original while you are at it.

The 61-62 40s are nearly as quirky as the 25s, I think, just enough is different to make them a pain...do you know if you have the original tcase? It is a bit different from the later 63ish-on version...Brake line fittings are unique also...I could go on.

Anyone have the correct color green for the electrical? When i compare the original color on mine to that of the photos on Foxfab thread, mine looks more like an OD green while Foxfab's looks more like a forest green.

Just looking for the correct color. Thanks

Well, went with what I went with.

Yep. Found an old guy to look it over. Got it back later that day.

Looks good, I pulled out a clean starter the other day to take pics, slow in posting. Original color was a little darker........................maybe that was from 40 years of being soaked in grease. :)

What did you do for oil lines in that picture, original?

When I got it, it only had part of an original oil line on it. I ordered two from SOR$$ (actually fairly inexpensive) based on the part number on their site. Came in original Toyota packaging and matched my old partial oil line. For the filter assembly, just wire wheeled it clean and repainted. Ordered a new filter and luckily it comes with all the stock rubber seals and o rings.

Still looking for an original early air cleaner assembly. Apparently, the 65 and later are different than the earlier ones. Also having trouble finding an OEM fuel pump and filter assembly. All, of course, are discontinued or replaced by a different version that does not look stock.

Thought the color looked a little light but when i matched it to photos of restorations, it was the closest I could find.

Here's my clean starter. It's a little darker, oh well.

I remember the original oil lines used to be crazy expensive from SOR..........that's why I have stainless ones. Hmmmmm  . Did you save the Toyota number from the bags for the parts number thread?

Well crap. Now I have to repaint. My paint is a little darker in natural light but it is obvious there is a different. Would you say it is a gloss OD green?

Part number for the hoses that is on the packaging is:

90923-03001

SOR# 026-15A $9.98
