I'm planning on covering up some of the chrome on my ash blue mica GX and I'll be starting with the side door trim and the rear door. The side doors will be done in black to match the surrounding trim. I thought about doing the back door black as well but I had the thought to try to spray it to match the car's paint. Has anyone done this? Any recommended touch up paint suppliers?

I’m not sure that would look good having mismatched trims, but that’s just me. Moreover, I’m not sure how you can paint over the chrome trim.

I have a picture somewhere in my build of my blue ash mica with all black prado window trim.

Oh what year is your gx? Maybe I got the chrome mixed up.

Mine is an '06.

I was planning on using black plasti-dip for the chrome window trim. I had good results with it blacking out the chrome on my old S4's windows. I also liked that it was removable in case I changed my mind.

Just to clarify, I'm thinking of color painting the long chrome trim on the tailgate. I'm not crazy about the big chrome piece but there's no other black surrounding it, so I feel like a blacked out version would stand out in a different way. If it was painted to match the surrounding color it would blend better, imo.

Got it. The rubber felt on my original window chrome trim was deteriorated and falling apart. Also. I damaged it pulling it off. So, be careful pulling it off.

The plasti dip might work on the rear hatch door chrome strip and emblems. I’ve seen emblems painted but I don’t recall the chrome strip being painted.

Ours is plasti-dipped along with the emblems, but hidden by the tire. Here's what black on white looks like:

Thanks for the tip. I don't think I'm going to remove them prior to spraying, for that reason. I'm not worried about leaving a small margin un-painted so long as all the visible portions are black.

No problem, thanks for checking. Are you happy with the color match/ quality of the paint in general?
I am..its not paint shop quality but it takes a close inspection to tell. If I had taken the time to wet sand and polish the clear it would have been close to what you can do with a gun. The color itself is spot on.
