Update----we raised over $400 through the mud community, and another $500 in cash/check donations through colleagues at work...combined with other donations from my wife we were able to make a $1200 purchase at Costco tonight. There are now three truckloads of goods heading to 5-6 relief centers on Friday. Thank you all for your assistance.
Would you like to make a financial donation for Hurricane Irene relief in Vermont? My wife works for the Department of Homeland Security here. Her office is coordinating a large food and supplies drop for this Friday. They will accept donations until 4pm on Thursday. They are accepting dry goods and supplies, but with the $$ received they will make purchases at Costco on Thursday night. All goods will be delivered via truck to the three disaster relief recovery centers on Friday. These goods will be transported all around VT thereafter, some by helicopter. Many small towns in Vermont are inaccessible as of Wednesday morning, some only by ATV or small 4wd truck.
I am going to try and coordinate a financial donation to this DHS effort from our MUD forum and be transparent along the way.
1. Donations accepted in any amount via paypal
2. Please send the funds as a gift, such that paypal fees are avoided. You may send it as a regular paypal payment too, but the donation will be reduced/clipped by the paypal fee rate.
3. I will compile a list of all donations and the amounts.
4. This list will be made available to those that donate along with a photograph of the personal check I will write for the total amount. My full name and contact information on the check, obviously.
This is the quickest way I know to allow the wider Mud community to help disaster relief here in New England, and in Vermont specifically.
I won't be able to facilitate donations received after 4pm on Thursday. Any donations received thereafter, while appreciated, will be refunded.
