Headed up to Bear River Reservoir for the M-Day weekend.

Anyone know this area and maybe enlighten me on some good remote areas to get into with my cruiser?

A ranger told me that Cole Creek was very nice.

I am looking for a good camping / swimming / fishing spot.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I camped at Bear River Reservoir last year during July 4 week. Very nice camping at the Sugar Pine campsites away from the main resort. Right on the water. Unfortunately, I did little wheeling, as we only had the one vehicle and I never wheel alone.

Can you give me directions to that camp?

Sugar Pine? Probably be full by the time I get up there but I would love to have the info in my pocket.

Thanks!

I thought it would be full, too, especially during July 4 week, tho this wasn't the weekend. I believe the turnoff to the Bear River Reservoir Resort isn't far past the Ranger Station on Hwy 88 on the right. There was a sign for it. Take the road and when you get to the resort, do not turn right, to go into the resort and the General Store area. This is where the crowd will be. Go straight, past the buildings and the road will get a bit rougher. Follow it all the way around and down to the campground. Only 9 spots, but even on that busy week, there were only 2 other sites being used. There is a fee, however. I can't remember how much. I think it was $12 or $15/night.

I have pics here:

The Pardoe Trail trailhead is just across the reservoir. You can get to it by going back to the main Resort and going across the damn. There are signs. This trail gets up to over 9000 ft on Squaw Ridge. I'm hoping to try this trail sometime this summer. There were also some rough looking trails right out of the Sugar Pine area, but again, I was alone and didn't want to risk breakage. There was a caretaker with a built-up heep at Sugar Pine. If he's there, I know he can advise you on trails. He lives in a trailer right there during the season.

the hood ornament was in place when I bought the 40 31 years ago. Just couldn't find it in my heart to remove it.
