Hello,

My first post here....

My wife has a 2006 Lexus GX470. The other day we were taking a ride and I felt I was in a dune buggy. It felt like we were going through potholes, speed bumps, and over logs in the road! She generally uses the car as a soccer-mom car. I am planning on changing the original air bag suspension to coil springs and I watched numerous YouTube videos on how to do this. However, none of them speak to also changing the rear air shocks and the front shocks/struts. If I change the air bags to coils, should I also change the air shocks? (If so, could I change them out to regular shocks?) What about the front shocks/struts? The front end feels pretty stiff when I push down on it.....

Thanks!

You can just swap the bags to springs and leave everything else in place. The shocks are separate from the airbag system and are electronic.

Most folks also do shocks at the same time for a lift. If the bags have issues, the shocks are usually worn out too. Mine certainly were.

Wow you're fast! Thanks for the reply. That is what I figured too, especially since you partially need to remove the shock to get the air bag out. So, it looks like I need to get an electronic shock as well? (Opposed to a standard shock). Ok...thanks!

You can replace the shocks with non-adjustable standard shocks. Just order them for a 4runner of the same year. The electronic shocks are quite expensive. You'll need to pull a few fuses to keep shock and airbag lights from turning on.

Thanks Rednexus. One more question: The fuses I pull are the same as those for the air bag? As I recall, there are a 50A and 10A fuse under the hood, and another fuse under the steering wheel. This car is nice, but it has too many bells and whistles that are just not necessary!

Have a wonderful Independence Day!

I do not recall. I think there are a few threads on here that list the ones to pull.
