Funnily enough that is exactly what I did. I did it before the body was cut and the hard top was on so it will handle a liitle bit of weight.

Using dual rate and a little pre load I should be able to adjust them back some what to account for the roof being off.

I am no expert but you need to determine your sprung weight.

Sprung weight is the vehicle's total mass that is supported ABOVE the suspension

Once you know your srung weight you can calculate your spring rate

try this calculator

Sway-A-Way Calculators

Hanging hydraulic scale works to determine sprung weight

Sherline Suspended HydraulicScales

my 2 cents

good luck

In the absence of the ability to weight just the chassis, you can get a pretty decent idea of weight if you weigh the rig and subtract the axles, wheels, tires, and 1/2 the suspension components.

You really want to spend ~ $400 on a Rancho coilover that is basicaly not rebuildable?

Why not just get a set of FOA's?

I agree with Mace I have never heard anything good about rancho coilovers. I think there are better options out there. F-O-A seems to be very reasonably priced, I'm sure they are great quality. I ordered my Fox coil overs from Polyperformance, the guys there set up my spring rates. They nailed it first time, I wanted my coil overs to sag 9" so that there was 5" of it for up travel. They also do spring exchange, at least I'm pretty sure they still do it. You can exchange your springs as many times as necessary as long as they are not beat up.

I feel that there is a lot of room there to adjust for preference. It isn't a black and white subject, you may want a soft setup, or a harder one. You may need to experiment a little to find what you really like.

one of my buds bought a set of foa's and he got springs that are too stiff (on their advice) now they won't let him exchange them for a different set (the springs are unused, his rig hasn't left the shop yet) it's pretty much a industry standard to be able to exchange springs if they are unscratched.....personally i wouldn't buy a g.d. thing from those people

Industry standard? Funny.. when I bought my coilovers, there was only one shop (Poly) that was letting you do that. Summit will let you return coils, but only because their customer service is good, not because they allow you to swap coils.

Hmmm, I'll ask them about that. I thought they had a exchange policy as well.

BI have bought a lot from Polyperformance over the past year or so. They have always been great to me. They seem to be very knowledgeable, and have been able to help out. They have gone out of their way for me, and been super quick to get me anything I order.

I like the idea of supporting a small American company, I work for one. But I have to say though, Fox is hard to go wrong with. I have used their products for years on my downhill bikes and more recently my cruiser. I am running the emulsion coilovers with the 7/8" shaft. Fox builds their 7/8" shafts from 17-4 s. steel, without a doubt the sickest alloy out there. The fox w/ the 5/8" shaft is a hard chrome finish, not nearly as cool. F-O-A uses hard chrome on all their stuff right? Not familiar with King, Sway away, ect, I don't know what they use. But the 17-4 shaft is by far the best being made! Fox builds one of the best shocks in the world, and they are usually cheaper than most.

i have orede from polly they seem good always got my stuff in right on thats guys for the info i was just looking at price and on how mutch i wheel the buggy thought the rancho wer rebuildiable , i guess ill just save up for some fox
