I have seen it done both ways and was wondering about the costs for a budget minded person.

With a link set up and using the less expensive coils plus a good quality shock, lets say Bilstien since they are popular.

Are the costs savings worth it in the long run???

I am baised as I spent the $$ for coilovers. I personally haven't run coils. Main reason I went for coilovers was the compact design (having the spring over the shock is a big space saver), and ease of adjustability and tunability.

Budget minded and coilover may be mutually exclusive. Plan on around $400.00 per corner with coilovers with dual rate kit and 8 springs. Your mileage will vary.

I see Proffits link coil system, he claims its bar none one the best bang for the buck.

Little thread on PBB.

Kinda thought the same myself.

(having the spring over the shock is a big space saver),

Not to mention the amount of bracketry involved in mounting seperate coils & shocks. You could just get a yard to torch off those brackets from a TJ or Rubicon Express sells a whole kit $$$. I was able to salvage some of the coil mounts off a TJ. Then you have to figure out how the link bars are to be mounted to the axle. Here's how I did my fronts:

Okay then that being said, what is the cost for the coils, shocks, buckets and time to install and fabricate all the parts needed to make this work.

Guess the coilovers are not that expensive afterall.

Hehe! Ask Jeremiah Proffitt. He's probably got his time & $$$ documented, cuz I sure don't. Obviously, the biggest killer is your time making & fabbing all the brackets. The material wasn't *that costly. I wouldn't do seperate coils again on a stock width LC axle. It's too tight in the front, IMO. Good luck w/ yours'!

coils

for what its worth i have coils all four. i used 4" lifted coils for a tj jeep i spent 90.00 per set . cost of steel for brackets minimal. time to fab depends on your abilty and # of freinds to help and brainstorm. mine is not done but it is the second one. a friend has the other and he pounds the s**t out of it no breaks so far. i have som pics if you would like

You're not using stock width axles are you? I'm using the 4" TJ coils as well in the front, 2 1/2" in the rear. I'd like to see some pics too.......

he has them as i requested them a while back. SEARCH he posted in the thread here or on pirate.

Why not aerostar coils (cargo version for heavy rig), fj80 front coils, 6 cyl cherokee front coils. adjustable buckets will allow you to get the height you want to a point.

I also like captured coils, you can use any coil just make them fit, you could even play with the tighter coil over springs for limited space applications. not new, but next to nobody uses them. SH and you can get them with adjustable sleeves :)

Cost is the best question. maybe i just give away too many good ideas.
