Heading up Thursday afternoon, there by 6:00 pm hopefully, have a primitive cabin Thursday Friday Saturday night.
I hope it has a good working AC!
Flying to Dallas tomorrow for work. I don’t know what will be hotter.
Enjoy the trails Eric.

Matt and I are coming Wednesday PM.

I'lll be closer to 8 p.m. to Twin Grove....work requires a stop in Balto harbor at 4:00 to meet a charter boat with a food delivery. I'll be loaded and heading north by 4:30 from there...

@76FJ40 I'll look for you when I arrive to see if you and Matt are around.
@Boomstick keep me posted when you are up there and if you are coming by Twin Grove tonight & we can hang too.

Update, hopefully leaving by 1, so there around 4 if all goes welll!

The weather was better than expected; not too hot and most of the rain was during the night. I incurred some body damage on the 74's top and Matt's steering ram (Redneck Ram) decided to disassemble itself which also trashed the power steering pump. I think Eric got some minor body damage and Charlton and Burl were unscathed. Thanks to Brother Burl and Charlton for their help with Matt's steering.

Sorry to hear about Matt's steering, that's a real bummer for sure. I'm glad that he was able to get off of the trail given where we were when it bound up! It wasn't too bad of a spot obstacle wise, but very tight lock-to-lock navigation that would have made recovery very difficult when the steering is literally locked in place.

Fortunately I came out undamaged, but there was the blue (I think, covered in mud) 80 that was trailered in as more of a beater trail truck (I suck at remembering names!) that hit his drivers side rear quarter panel and blew out one of the rear quarter windows. I think this was the same tree that took out @76FJ40 's top too, but Bob can confirm. It was on a nice blue trail (the first of the day) that I followed @tromz through, but he kicked out early on a bypass that looked like the main way out. The rest continued on what looked to turn to a black with very hairy off camber stuff where this damage happened to all including @FuglyYota 's soft top gash.

Nice to hang with everyone for a few days, but coming off of the trail on Saturday, I was hot and stinky, so I opted to get home by dark that evening. Trails were pretty cool in the woods and I was able to comfortably ride windows down with a little A/C accent, but when I got back to the campground Saturday around 5, it just seemed hot as hell.

I'm looking forward to hearing the post-op summary about the steering ram detonating. Otherwise, it sounds like y'all had a good time and the trails didn't disappoint.

Thanks to @CrabCake for completing the damage report.

Steering - When we got back to TG, Matt unbolted the live end of the ram and started the truck as I watched the ram for movement. When the truck started, the rod shot out of the cylinder indicating that it had become detached from the piston. The end of the rod is threaded and can't turn when bolted in place so this is a manufacturing/assembly defect. No word yet from West Texas Offroad, the maker of the ram.

Update - West Texas Off-road has a new ram on the way.
