Coal Mine
Steve- thanks for posting the pics- they're great. All in all the 2012 event was a blast- good weather (a little hot, though), good people and a well run event. I even did pretty good in the raffle!
Besides Steve wheeling his FJ, Bill Smith made the maiden run in his 40. Worked great till he broke a motor mount. He wheeled it pretty good though and I believe got a good feel for what his 40 can do. My 40 worked great I wheeled two days, rode with Steve one day, and rode another day in Todd Oldenburg's cool BJ70. Craig Merkey wheeled one day and got a bit of rash on the passenger side of his 40 on trail 14- an interesting trail. Ben Delp wheeled Friday and showed how capable his truck is. Rob and Kelly made it Saturday and they had a blast. Matt Reed rode shotgun two days then headed out for a vacation with the family.
Smaller turnout than expected but it was a quality turnout. Saw lots of new faces and as usual lots of people who were either new or relatively new to the wheeling part of the land cruiser cult. Lots of smiles on people's faces, that tells the story!
Christy's Lake was a fun time this year- nobody got in over their head and even though there is a good bit of water in there everyone was able to drive across by sticking to the shoreline. We've seen severla people over the years with deal trucks needing a tug to get out of the lake. Not this year.
The meal and raffle was good, our table garnered quite a few winnings in the raffle. Chris Stearns (our Massachusetts adoptee) won a six man tent and a winch, among other things. I got some good gift certificates and also a Fall gathering package- admission, hoodie, and T shirt. I'm planning to get up there again this year as the wheeling at Gretchen's is very interesting.
I can't stress enough that local Toyota fans should support and enjoy this event. It's in our backyard and a well run and fun event. It's usually the second weekend after the July 4 holiday (same time as ther Bloomsburg truck event) and well worth attending. At the CMCC you can meet new poeple, reacuaint yourself with old friends, and see quite the variety of Toyota vehicles in the staging area and in action. Don't miss it next year!!!! Gary S
