I have been driving my cruiser for quite while now with the clutch making almost like a "whooshing" noise whenever i push it in. I'm Pretty sure this is the throwout bearing. I have driven it almost 8,000 miles since it started and it seems nothing is really wrong. Now the noise has dissapeared, and only shows up when i push in the clutch while shifting at higher RPMs. Has anyone else experienced this? :D

My throwout bearing has been making noise for 25,000 miles. It gets better (quieter) and worse (louder) from time to time. No idea why. I took it to a mechanic once when it was on the loud side, and he said unless my clutch was bad he wouldn't worry about it until it got a lot louder. It didn't, and that was over 8,000 miles ago. Not sure if my experience is similar to others, but L/C's do seem to be pretty durable.

Usually TO bearing problems can easily be identified if you merely take off the cover and watch/listen to it while someone runs it in and out while running.

Not too sure about the Whoosh sound, could be that it's just really starting to wear out. Hard to tell.

Right now mine squeals when idling because I need to adjust it away from the press plate fingers, it's not supposed to constantly ride there like that.

when mine was going it made a loud whining noise, but i drove it around for a while like that. Didn't feel like anything was wrong, just sounded terrible.

same thing happened to mine with the previous owner. It sounded like a box of rocks but clutch was fine.... had a shop take it apart and they said the clutch was fine, replaced the throwout bearing and now it is silent and smooth. $800 in labor $20 in parts.

Now my alternator bearings sound like they are about to seize.. the joys of living near the beach and fog in SF. I just keep telling myself it is better than a $300-500 car payment and the car insurance that goes with it $100-150/month.

$800 in labor

Good lord, I'm in the wrong line of work  . I'd have done it for you for mmmm lets see....... $500 :D

I must really be in the wrong line of work, because there's no way I could pay someone $800 to pull my trans and replace a bearing. I guess if you can afford it, there's nothin wrong with keepin your hands clean.
