I got out of my 60 the other day and noticed a few drops of oil on the floor mat. I got down to see where it was coming from and noticed more on the wall. It looks like it it coming from the rubber boot that goes through the wall and connects to the clutch. I then checked the fluid for the clutch and it is low.

Is this just a case of a bad master cylinder or something else? Should I purchase this from toyota or would any parts store work? Is there anything else that I should replace on the inside of the 60.

Thanks

SJ

You have a bad clutch master cylinder. You can either replace the master or rebuild it. You can check with cdan at American Toyota (see advertising vendors link). Napa probably has decent hydraulic parts, I don't know that I would go with just any vendor, though, because if the seals blow out, you're pretty much stuck.

While you're working on the master you should also do the same to the slave cylinder moutned on the bell housing. When one goes, the other is not far behind...

If I recall correctly, the OEM master/slave are only about $100. Change them both at the same time, don't worry about them for another 20 years.

Get a new OEM clutch master. I think they are about $90 with our discount. I rebuilt mine (easy to do, but still costs $30) but there was pitting on the inside of the cylinder that wore out the new seals in no time.

Just get a new one, I even carry a spare, 'cause having no clutch in the middle of nowhere sucks.

EDIT: what he said
