clutch disk backward?

I just finished a VERY painful 4 speed conversion... And I'm affraid I put the clutch dick backward :doh: The clutch travel (fork) looks o.k. but my cruiser won't move!
I know it's possible to put it backward, but is this a sign I did :mad:

Clutch Disk

If you have instaaled the clutch disk backwards, you will be unable to shift the transmission. It sounds like this is your problem. You must make sure that the longer "nose" of the disk is facing the flywheel
 
I can shift gears with the engine running. There is no grinding noise and I can turn the throw out bearing with my hands when there is no pressure on the clutch pedal...

and the t-case is not in neutral ;)
 
If it was hitting the disk bolts, would I hear noise??? :confused:
 
I've never seen a clutch that would release with the disc in backwards......

Are you 100% sure that I would not be able to change speed with a backward disk?
Because I can shift to every speed with the engine running.

The worst part of this story is that I know what is the good side! My problem is i'm affraid I got distracted and put it on the wrong side. So i'd like to know : if it's on the wrong side, would I be able to shift gears with the engine running?
 
Backwards clutch is not your problem. A clutch disc that is in backwards will not allow the clutch to disengage. It will act as if you are not stepping on the pedal. The engine will always be linked to the tranny.

The disc when installed reversed won't even sit flat against the flywheel because its bottoming out with the flywheel bolts... so if you were to go ahead and bolt down the pressure plate it will be in such a bind that it won't disengage... note:(this information is based on a co-workers screw-up I witnessed)anyway get under the truck remove the dust cover, with the trans in gear rotate the flywheel by hand with a large screwdriver or the correct rotating tool and observe what is going on.. as the flywheel turns is the disc sitting still? or is it rotating with the flywheel?

Your Trans shifter is not installed properly.

An improperly installed shift lever will prevent the tranny from shifting at all. You won't be able to move the lever. He can shift the gears (move the lever anyway) with no problems.

I doubt he would be able to start the engine with the tranny in gear with the clutch back wards. I would say transfer still in neutral or the drive shafts are still setting on your work bench.

Is there any grinding when you shift?

Maybe the clutch slave needs adjusting, is there any play in the clutch fork?

I'm glad to hear that the disk is on the right side!!! Here's what I'm 100% sure:

With no pressure on the clutch pedal, I can rotate the release bearing with , my hands

I can start the engine, and change speeds without any problems

the t-case is not in neutral

The driveshaft are not on my workbench :doh:

At the end of the clutch pedal travel, I can feel it's beginning to catch , but there is no motion.

I will be away for a few days but I'm gonna take a look as soon as I get home

Amost sounds like the input spline shaft is not in the clutch spline. NOt sure how that could happen unless your mixing and matching 3 sp and 4 spd parts. Never worked on a three speed so I am not familiar with the parts. As far as being able to shift the trans, the 4 speeds are full syncro and can be shifted no mater what the engine speed is doing. Worst case senarios is a stripped input gear or cluster
