I need to do this before I go wheelin with you guys -- anyone done their own clutch on a stock FJ40? Any words of wisdom? I plan to get a centerforce but just the standard one and a rear main seal from Toyota. Any other seals that you've found were puking when you pulled the trans out that you can't normally get to? How bout clearance issues? Is this thing going to slide in and out relatively easy? (oh ha ha I can guess the jokes now) I know someone is just going to send me a link from a previous ih8mud forum but I was hoping for a little more "local knowledge". Oh, and I have a trans mount for my floor jack from Harbor Freight. Thanks all.

Get or borrow an alignment tool. The centerforce does not come with one. You'll like the centerforce, I have one in my 40 and my 4Runner.

I find that it is easier to pull the seats and tranny hump and use a cherry picker from the top than to use a floor or tranny jack from the bottom. If you don't have a cherry picker you can also use a ratchet strap or something similar around the cage (if you have a cage).

I am dealing with a SM420 on mine so its a bit heavier. Also, my interior is fairly sparse so it is easy to pull out.

interesting concept. I'm not crazy about the idea of removing the top (which would probably be necessary) but at least I'd have less back strain. I couldn't remember if my hump was bolt-in. I have the original flooring plus about 10 layers of insulation to keep the heat down to remove + seats, Tuffy console and probably my entire A/C Evap/blower unit that i just installed. eeeh, I don't think I want to have to recharge that unit. Great suggestion though, thanks.

anyone have any experience with the clutch kit from Cool Cruisers? It comes with everything for under $300 and claims to be "heavy duty"?

Mission and Fer are Out!

So I didn't feel like renting (or buying) a cherry picker. I came up with this instead. Worked great for removal but have yet to see if it goes in as smoothly. Bought that clutch kit from Cool Cruisers so I'm interested to see how it works out.
