The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) was informed by the Washington Area Trail Riders that on June 20, the offices of U.S. Representatives Gerry Connolly (D-VA) and James Moran (D-VA) will be hosting a U.S. Forest Service meeting to seek input from the public regarding the George Washington National Forest Draft Management Plan. The meeting will be held at the Fairfax County Government Center in Fairfax, Virginia. If you want to help protect the off-highway trails that you, your family and your friends enjoy, this is an opportunity you can't afford to miss.
The AMA has learned that both Connolly and Moran are pushing for more areas to be managed as Wilderness, which will lead to more road and trail closures to off-highway (OHV) use. Connolly and Moran sent a letter, dated February 24, 2009, to the U.S. Forest Supervisor calling for more forest protections, such as Wilderness designations.
You might recall that Connolly and Moran held a similar meeting last April. Many supporters from the Washington Area Trail Riders attended this meeting.
The riding community must tell the U.S. Forest Service that we are concerned about maintaining responsible access to our public lands in the George Washington National Forest!
Please plan to attend the June 20 meeting to help protect OHV access to public lands.
