Clip popped out of fuel fill door, not sure where it goes

I was filling up today and this popped out when I opened the fuel door. Can anyone take a peek inside your door so I can figure out where it goes? Not sure if it’s broken or if I can pop it back in. Thank you.

'17 LC, Filling up with gas last week, noticed a small clip on the ground. Picked it up and kept it, but didn't think much of it.

Come yesterday when I try to get gas again, I can't get the fuel door to pop open. Luckily the dealer got me right in and was able to get the spring/and plastic retainer in the next day, but getting gas was a 2 person job (one to hold the release latch and the other to push the door open by hand)

Anyone had this break on them?

Mine broke a month ago. I plan to use hot glue for the fix.

ProTip - when this happens the key fob can be used to hold the release open so one can then open the cover.
