Hi,

I recently purchased a 1993 80 series from overseas and i was very happy with the condition it came in.
I recently had to do an overhaul on both birfs because the axle seals were worn.
I thought it may have been a bad bearing, but after the rebuild, the problem remains.
When i come to a complete stop say at a red light, everything is normal, but as soon as i go to accelerate, i think i hear a slight clink noise from the front end, and i can feel it in the steering wheel as well.
Its as if the toe of the wheels are shifting, forward when i stop, then back again when i accelerate.
I have 3 ideas what the problem may be, but was wanting some opinions first.
I was thinking it could be the steering damper shifting around, but i'm not sure if that could be felt through the steering wheel.
I thought maybe it could be loose tie rod ends, maybe the ball-joints are worn and causing some play in the toe.
And lastly, i thought it could be a worn out intermediate steering shaft, but i'm really not too familiar with them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The U-Joints seem fine, i put the truck into neutral, and went under and spun the drive-shaft to check for play in the u-joint and they are all fine although i found something interesting instead.
The rear drive-shaft barely has any play in it at all at the diff, on the contrary, the front drive-shaft can easily be spun about an inch back and forth.
I'm thinking maybe its the diff causing me problems.

Any other suggestions?

I would look at the drive shaft universalls. The simptims are all there.

Could be backlash but your diff should wine like made if it was that bad.Take the front drive shaft off and drive her to see. Then put it back and do the same on the rear.
