wait you cant modify the engine but you CAN put a v8 in a metro...... That seems a bit conflicting

You can do whatever you want to the engine, swap it, upgrade it, etc.... Vehicle has to equal $500. (outside of safety things - which include tires, rollcage, gauges, pedals, etc)

Hence the 911 with a diesel. With the stock 911 motor there's no way it would be worth less than $500.

With no motor, diesel Motor, rc motor or a blender motor its still worth more than $500 ;)

It's not because it was "on hand" it's because of a few factors: The value of the total car may have been well over the $500 limit, but you're allowed to sell any usable parts that you don't need and subtract that from the value.

For example:

911 trashed with no engine has a value of say, $2000
If they sell the complete interior for $1500, they're all set.

You can read about it here:
LeMons Sears Pointless Inspections: Diesel Porsche 911 Set To Battle The Homer

Now that said, there's a BS factor - you can go over the $500 limit as determined by the judges but you're penalized 1 lap for every $10 of value over $500.

No points for coolness, get a crapcan or the guy in the silver '72 LTD will trade paint with you (he has no top, looks like aircraft carrier). There are lots of rubbing going on, 4 deep on a turn, and the rules for adding laps are arbitrary. Easy to get squeezed between others and get some serious scrapes.

If your car is too cool or cute, the other drivers vote for a car to destroy, if you "win", car will be destroyed by a giant digger used to tear into it. You sign that off at the start, one year everyone voted to crush some Ass-clowns on a really good looking mustang 5.0. The had a lot of money in their car, missed the spirit of the "race". They only salvaged the block out of the engine. There are cool Youtube videos showing the demolitions.

"People's Curse" from what I can tell they don't really do that anymore.

Anyone ever heard of "U Car". From what I can tell, it's less goofy than Lemons, and the cars are very evenly matched.

The first two cars that I posted were built for it. It's a NC/SC/VA based race series....

This is funny, from the NASA Spec E-30 guys, I used to run with them years ago. They waited until the driver was fully strapped in car so he couldn't get out, and glued the device to his hood right before grid out.

Nope - you just have to be 18 or 16 with your parents permission. The rules on the cars are very, very geared toward cheap and fair...

The fact that it's so local - and so cheap makes it more appealing than Lemons..
