Chrome Shifter Trim

The Chrome Shifter trim piece on my hundy is bubbling. How common is this and what have others done for a fix?

Half of my plastic chrome shifter trim bubbled up and I simply pulled it off. I thought about using a heat gun to release the adhesive on the remaining trim and scrapping it off. Curious what others have done too.
