The White Elephant Gift Exchange

At the October meeting, which Jpr Ron and I were in attendance, I volunteered to MC the white elephant gift exchange. I mean I must have been in attendance, otherwise how could I have volunteered or been nominated for anything? :)

Rules:
Each PMC member Family will bring one White Elephant gift.

(this is by last name, not individual, for instance, Cindy and I would NOT bring two white elephant gifts, it would only be one, and when Twiddy came up, one of us would step up and participate)

Definition of white elephant gift: ideally, this is something you already have in your possession, and really do not want it, or would like to re-gift it. You can buy something, but the minimum $ should be $20. There is no minimum value if this is something you already own, and we do not recommend buying one. Be sure it is wrapped up good to avoid Jeeper Ron from peaking. :) A White Elephant gift is NOT a baked item.

When you arrive, you will need to indicate your desire to participate in the gift exchange so you can be issued a ticket for the name draw. Your White Elephant gift is your access to the gift exchange.
(unless the club wants to make it mandatory, but I thought that was a bit stringent.)

The gift exchange: When everyone is assembled and properly lubricated, we will begin the gift exchange by drawing a name. The first person may choose any gift. If they touch anyone, that is choosing! They MUST open the gift. Yes, we allowed not opening in the past, but this year will be mandatory open so everyone sees what was won, and what is available to be stolen if desired.

The second name drawn can then choose a gift, or steal a previous gift. If stold, the person who lost their gift gets to either choose another gift, or steal someone else's gift.

You cannot steal a gift you just lost!

Each gift can only be stolen 3 times and then it becomes locked, and no one can steal until the very last name is drawn, then all gifts are open and available.

We will progress thru the names by random draw until the last name and last gift.

I suggest the club add something to the final gift to make it something no one would pass on, otherwise the final round can get very long.

I think I covered it. Looking forward to the festivities and HoHoHo.

Tony, is it within reason to have a cash envelope of unknown amount as a gift ? and I do believe we missed the 50/50 raffle at Oct. meeting, but I was not sure if we usually did a 50/50 at Oct. meet, Do you remeber if we have in the past ? If it was missed then should it roll over to the christmas party ?

no 50/50 at October... the club has already provided enough to our members at that particular meeting.
and no, it would not roll over to the Christmas party.

I don't know about the cash envelope... I mean I love the idea of receiving cash... always have and always will.

but how would it work at the white elephant?

send me the cash, I'll pick up a gift for you...

Hey Tony-
Didn't the club pick up the gifts for the White Elephant in the years past? gas cards, tools, etc. On another note, a contractor in Placerville came down this weekend and bought our green Landcruiser. I told him to keep a eye out for your blue 45 up there.
Kinda funny this guy is selling a 66 red FJ40. As he was talking about it, it started to sound familliar turns out I built it about 8 years ago, still in great shape just different rubber and the 327 I installed is getting tired.

Now that you mention it Tim... I do recall something to that effect.

so I would offer: there are two choices here, a white elephant, or a raffle.

White elephant is going to see a cornacopia of gifts with lots of variety, costs the club zip.
raffle off of purchased items is going to see gas cards, tire repair kits, and misc stuff, costs the club 3 to 5 hundred.

As the MC, I am very flexible and will ensure what ever is available is distributed per the rules out lined.

Option two above, will need approval by our President and Treasurer... (was it in the 2010 budget, etc.)

My personal preference... white elephant, members bring something. ( I think the type and variety of gifts make for a more enjoyable and 'festive' gift exchange.)
***

You sold that green cruiser? (I secretly coveted it.) you do damn fine work Tim... both those cruisers are freaking gorgeous! (ya, that includes mine.) What is the next project moving into the garage??

He said he is going to do mine, just cause he is bored, he also said it was only going to cost a case of wine to!!

Imagine that!!

I'm imagining some mighty fine wine:)

**We still need someone available in the East Bay to pick up our gifts.

Any help from within the 880/680 Corridor? Hit me up via pm..subject "T4T Shuttle Pickup". THX!

Not incredibly close to the east bay, but I work in Yountville, which ties into 880 Via 29, we could find a mid-point Saturday morning. However, one of my fellow night auditors just got fired, so I may not get Saturday off just yet, I'll keep you posted.

Hey, just because this just now popped into my head, I thought I would spit it out for all to ponder.

I thought that PMC sponsored the White Elephant, but in order to participate you needed to bring an un-wrapped gift for the toy drive.

Then everybody that brings a toy got to play, that means since Roger, and Pam both brought a toy they could both participate as individuals in the White Elephant.

At least that is how it has worked in the past, but time is coming short, and I need to know how many wrapped and un-wrapped gifts to bring.

White Elephant Chairman, WHAT YOU SAY??

So, with the shortage of trained help on the night shift at work, I'm guaranteed not to have Saturday off.
I'm hoping I can still make it if I get enough sleep during the day (as in: if 2 loud-mouth border collies see fit to be peaceable Saturday.) then I can be there for much of the party before heading out to Yountville.

*So yeah, with the family obligations that weekend it is a definite we can't make the meeting. See other thread for the voting stuff.

Regarding the White Elephant Gift Exchange PMC will be sponsoring the gift exchange. If you have something you would like to contribute to the raffle you are welcome just bring it wrapped please.
Don't forget the Toys for Tots- New Unwrapped Toys.

Thanks Dave, I picked up a toy yesterday but was wondering what was happening with the WEGE. Think I'll go pick up an adult gift
