I'm trying to get together a few folks for a group buy on a very nice metal chop saw. This is through one of my fellow Ga Cruiser Club members so here's the original post with a voting poll.

Check it out if you're in the market for a quality chop saw. (It's the EVO380 Raptor from Evolution Power Tools)

I have a Ryobi chop saw that you are more than welcomed to borrow
Much appreciated. I have plenty of ways to cut already - plasma, port-a-band, hacksaw, cut-off tools - but this blows them all away. Being able to cut something in 3-5 seconds that a port-a-band would take 40-60 is great. A lot of saws might do this but how many will do it with almost 0 sparks flying and NO heat buildup at the cut? None that I've ever seen other than this EVO. I'll let you borrow it if I get one and you'll understand why I want it so bad.

Is it really necessary, though :meh:

Walk in to Lowe's, pick up chop saw of your choice under $200, pocket the other $200, and live happy...

No. But what is other than food?

This saw is to regular saws what a steak knife is to a butter knife... Will a butter knife work while eating a nice ribeye??? Sure it will, but wouldn't a steak knife be so much more effective and make the experience much more enjoyable? Besides, if a $200 saw will do the same job as this $400 one, why then would a $100 saw not do what a $200 one will? Where does it stop?

I may be biased because I worked for Snap-On, but this seems a bit like the Snap-On of chop saws to me. There's probably a better one somewhere, but I've never seen it.

Sorry for the long rant, but I just prefer not to skimp on tools. I'm just hoping to find a few others like me that really like having the best tools for the job even though they cost a lot more.

In this case, I'm clearly not one of those people :D
I know the vast majority are going to be with you on this. I also know that most people don't have stacks of steel laying around and have the need to cut stuff on a weekly basis like me. That's why I put it out to so many people in hopes I could find the few that are ready to move up.

Stacks of steel? What are you doing, playa?!

Whatever I want to - the steel was free!

Steve if you want to play with steel I'll pay for materials if you help me cut and weld up an interior tire carrier

Cameron might have enough scrap for you to make one. My interior carrier was pretty easy to make.

I have the pipe/tube here that br...made his wit.
I'd be willing to help out anyone that wants it, but I bet Bomar could build something a lot nicer than I could. Everything I have is flat or angle - no tube.

Cameron, you are too kind!

I have an idea I'm toying with. I just don't know if it's feasible. I'll run it by y'all sometime

Doesn't anyone have AutoCAD on their phone???

You mean like this...?
