I feel dubious about chinese cylinder heads right from the mention of it. Chinese quality is not up to scratch yet (keep in mind Japan use to make rubbish too when starting as an economic tiger). I avoid chinese steel, just for example some galvanised fence star pickets I got bent like butter and bits broke off, rubbish steel.

Anyone run a new chinese head? Apparently the only place they are cast now.

I heard there are companies here that buy blanks and finish off the machining themselves. Maybe they xray the head as well. I would ask a cyl head reconditioner

hmmm, as per usual, new chinese is less than half the price of a secondhand reconditioned. Yeah xray would help a bit. Quite a few reco places would just bang a chinese head in. Unfortunately everyone's business model is to sell like burgers.

hunting around..

If you’re stateside I just found a company that imports the high quality AMC heads… in fact mine should be here today…

Go ahead and buy the Chinese junk. Oh and by the way maybe you can get them to include some Bate virus free of charge!!!

What are you talking about? AMC heads are from Spain. They build quality aftermarket heads for small diesels. Do a little research and you will see the only ones recommended to be used are Toyota or AMC.

Though supposedly a few name brand distributors are using the Chinese heads, but I wouldn't...

I asked engine aus if they magnaflux. They said no,they check for machine and specs are correct, that is it. Yeahman is probably right, they love landcruisers in the middle east, partsouq, they have everything for a price. Amayama has a toyota head for about $3500aud! even then sometimes they don't end up having it and then the shipping..
(I ended up getting one of the cross members from the local toyota, $500 next day, they don't have cross member no2. amayama ended up wanting $1300 for tnt shipping for a cross member. New world.)

If I had the foresight, stability and space I would have just stocked up on hj47s 20-30 years ago like a guy in Caringbah NSW. He has at least 20 of them undercover.
Heads and injectors shall be the short coming over time..
Oz politics makes it hard for local manufacturers, shame. Real estate is worth more than what comes out of the factories. short term.
terrified of the thought of trusting chinese steel. From what I can tell,l they use more flux to lower melting temps, cheaper. Chinese steel has low dunk sound instead of a ting.

Do you know where new OEM heads are available from?
bare head, valve guides and pre cups installed around $1400aud, (he says to be quick..). can't find the spanish ones in oz yet. If I could get a good oem used one from a truthful person, I would have more faith.
