How old will they be when the 9 year old is twice the age of the 7 year old?

;)

Believe this already was answered, but they are really only 18 months apart so it actually happened when my oldest was 3. :)

For those of you with 3 kids (mine 6, 4, & 2) How easy is it to get them in the back seat with the buckles. Our 80 isn't difficult but sometimes have issues with them not being able to buckle themsleves due to the tight squeeze. two are in boosters with 1 in the full seat.

Also, does the 3rd seat have a shoulder strap or just lap?

I've looked at http://www.littleseats.com/fj_cruiser.htm as a possible option but worried about not having any room inside for day to day things. I have a Yakima box on my 80 series now but also have a little room in the back for a couple bags or such.

Where would I put my 90lb Malamute?

It will extremely croweded with all three in either boosters or full seats. The full seat really is the problem.

Yes all three positions in the rear have a shoulder strap.

Sounds like you might be one passenger too many if you also have 2 adults in the front seats. Only reason I bought is that my youngest is now only in a booster. You can fit 2 boosters with a 3rd kid easy.

Just go for the 100 series. :D

OK for you folks out there that have infants, what kind of car seat did you get and how well did it fit into the back seat? This isn't a matter of "will kids fit" but "how do you make them fit." Ain't no way I am giving up my truck!

I am now turning the FJ from a full time DD and part time wheeler into a full time DD and Grocery getter for a little while since I am pregnant and the Doc said no more wheeling until the baby comes.

Infant Seat

First off, congratulations! VERY nice ...

My wife and I have this Graco car seat. It's nice because you can buy separate "bases" for them and just clip/unclip the car set in/out of the vehicles and leave the base (I'm sure other car seats do this, too).

As for how it fits, well, it isn't the best fit. We put it in the middle and when the car seat handle is lowered, we have to squeeze it between the front seats. My solution, there, is to not put the handle all the way down. I was told, though, that this is some sort of a safety hazard (?). I figure if my generation grew up riding in the back seat in nothing more than a moses basket (and not even strapped in!), my son will be OK if the handle on the car seat is all of 3" from being all the way down.

One note that you may or may not come across: by placing the child seat in the middle, you shouldn't use the "car seat clips" because these are only designed to be used for the outer seats. Placing the car seat in the middle means you need to use the seat belt in the middle to strap in the car set (or, in our case, the car seat base). Some other safety thing. I figure this one was worth paying attention to. :)

If you like, I can post (well, post links to) pictures.

I just can't wait until Zaiden (my son! :)) is old enough to go wheelin' (you can't really take a newborn wheelin' due to either the "bobble head" or the fact that their brain could get rattled -- as in, 4-wheelin' can lead to the same problems as shaking a baby). I've only gotten to go a couple times since getting the FJ and he hasn't had a chance to join me, yet!

Hope this helps ...

Yes it helps a lot! Thanks so much! I am looking for a carseat like that...with the bases. I figure that since we have 2 cars, we can have 2 bases and use the same seat. I will look at that seat and compare it to a couple others I have looked at.

The one I was considering is this one Britax Companion . Se what you think now that you are an expert.

And thank you for the congrats! We are very excited and can't wait to meet our new little one. I figured the wheeling with him/her will have to wait until after a year old at least...but I thought I would put the question out there just to see what others have done.

I appreciate the advice! I didn't know about the center seat, seatbelt stuff!

Heather, best car seat out there seems to be a european one; we picked ours up in Vienna after going through a very in depth search 3 years ago; can get you more info later this evening if interested, they don't sell it in the US because of the litigation headaches BUT EU standards are more stringent than US ones and it was the top one 3 years ago; you have my cell number :)

My 6 and 8 y/o's climb into mine just fine, the running board helps.

I want to remove it though as it lowers the breakover angle.

I think Firetruck41 cited this earlier, but if you are in the unfortunate position of having to park in a parking garage or in a tight lot - the door dance is a real drag. I brought a child seat with me when I test drove the vehicle and found it to be fine getting my 4 year old in and out. I did not anticipate the issues when in a tight spot. I usually try to park on the end or far away from the door dingers, but sometimes I have to deal with a tough situation getting the kids in and out. I guess I could have purchased something else if that was my determining factor. If it is tough to get in and out with a normal 4 door, it is certainly more challenging in the FJ. You have to try it out and see if it is a deal breaker...
