I am looking to buy this but want to get y'all input on this.

M101a2 3/4 ton Military trailer

I have a maggiolina rtt that I'll put ontop. It will be used for light camping with my wife, two boys, & two dogs. Of course pulled by my 60:)

Is this too large?

Too big?!

Hell no....go for it!

Sounds like with that crew the xtra room will be an advantage.

maybe im no expert but that seems outrageously high. i mean you could easily buy 3 or 4 of those around here for that price

Not in the condition he described. Normally beat, rusted, dented, no top bows or canvas, most likely has the fiber bows. Sounds like it was barely used.

yes, that is a lot of money for here too.
And those are indeed quite big and heavy.

In the for sale section here there is one going for 1500 firm! It looks beat up.
I'll have tomorrow off so I'll look at it tomorrow.

When you say" quite big and heavy", what are you implying?

Of my use for the family?
Lack of power for my 60 to tow?
???

I passed on one in similar condition in the Nashville area for $500.

They are a good sized trailer, like toeing around a full sized truck bed. They weigh about 1200lbs empty. Th A2 means it has surge brakes I have no personal exp with surge brakes off road but basically as the weight of the trailer shifts forward on the hitch it applies brakes. To give you a price reference I purchased a 101a1(no surge brakes) for 250 dollars from military auction. I frequently see these trailers in good shape with bows and cover for less than 1k. Usually around the 5-800 mark depending on condition. If you do the auction route you can get them cheap just have to be near a location that is auctioning them. These trailers are almost always available on governmentliquidation.com. They are very plentiful across the US. If it were me I would shop around before paying that high a price on this trailer.

Sorry I missed this before, the one for sale here is a Canadian m101. It's a completely different trailer. It's 1/4ton and weighs in at about 700lbs empty. The box size is about 4X6. They are much more rare and tend to be pricy when in decent shape.

They regularly go for between 800-1000$ dollars in good shape, around here.

Make the guy an offer of a grand....thery're nice trailers to work on, built like brick $hit houses.

A bit heavy, but durable.

He sent me an email with pics. I can't upload those from my iPad.

Hey Andre,

Trailer is in great shape. A little surface rust here and there on external parts .... like handles and hitches and stuff ... nothing on the body.

The brake lights *work if you have a military type plug. If you are going to run this on a regular truck you have to convert the plug.

Tires are in awesome shape with a ton of tread.

As far as these trailers go it is in awesome shape. Brakes works. Everything is solid.

I have some furniture in there right now so it is hard to take a picture of the inside. Here are a bunch of shots of the exterior. If you are serious about this trailer I will take some shots of the interior tomorrow. The tailgate is half metal which folds down and the upper half is two wooden slated gates that swing back. All is in good working order.

Sometime this week should be fine if you want to see her. Make sure you have a pintle type receiver on your truck. If you don't already I will show you where to get these online.
I also have an extra one that I could sell you.

I mean I passed on getting one to tow with my 80 thinking it too big and heavy to do well off road. I'm guessing that on pavement and if not in a hurry, you might be OK with your 60. But admittedly I don't know much about 60s...

Those go for ~ 5 to 600 from Nellis AFB here in Vegas. Lots being dumped right now.

Some are in pretty damn good shape too.

$1500 sounds like too much IMHO.
Also, they weigh a lot and a 60's brakes suck.

I'd do a pickup truck bed if I were you. Lighter and probably cheaper.

One CUCV bed, one about to be trashed IH 3/4t p'up frame with springs, a square spline D60 rear + some large round tube (= ~3gals. lube oil capacity), some .25 wall square tube, one Scout II license plate holder, an S-10 spare tire winch, a Coca-Cola bottle opener, remaining tires after mom's Class B RV had a blow-out, and $200 in good wheel bearings = the ~$350 (total) Cheap Utility Trailer ("C.U.T."). Certified stable to 80 mph on a San Felipe run.......

Unloaded I can easily pick up the tongue and move it around by myself.

These trailers are heavy, just over half a ton unladen. They are easy enough to move around by yourself on flat ground, but they will shove you like a doll if there is any incline. The dump feature is a great tool, if you are using it for utility purposes. Every time I shovel out a load of dirt or mulch from my T-73, I wish I had the M101A# around. The surge brake is great if you are towing the thing on pavement. Any time you try to back it up off road, you will undoubtedly hit a rock, squishing the master cyl, and locking up the trailer brakes. Makes for a PITA when trying to get the thing turned around or parked. With the tarps/bows you are pulling a barn behind you, and catch any side wind like a sail. They had no problem pushing around a 9000lb HMMWV on the interstate. This one is about 2x the price I would EVER be willing to pay, even in its condition. Like others have said, keep your eye open for something at a better price, you can find M101cdn/416 which make a MUCH better overland trailer for about the same price.
