Anyone have any recommendation for what to check first for a code 71? According to the manual, this is a EGR code for California emissions. Is there something I can clean before spending the bucks on a new EGR valve?

Pull and clean the EGR temp sensor only found on CA model 62s. ALos clean up the inside where it mounts. Pull the neg terminal and let it sit for a while then see if the code goes away.

This seems to make sense, because I noticed the check engine light comes on much quicker when it is cooler. I'm not sure where the temp sensor is located. Is it attached to the EGR valve?

I pulled the 4 vaccum port part, attached in front of the EGR valve, and cleaned it with carb cleaner. I air dried the part, put it back together, cleared the codes and took the truck out for a test drive. The light did not come back on during my test drive. Let me know if I didn't get right part.
