Looking for a cheap (like $2K-$4K) AWD commuter that gets 30+ mpg's. Thinking about a 90's Subaru Justy. There are quite a few in CO and I can pick a decent one up for $2K-$3K. Anyone have experience with Justy's? Any other ideas? AWD would be nice because I travel a lot in the mountains and need to be able to get into some remote places for work. I really dig the Mazda 323 GTX's, but they can be pricey. I know I could pickup an old civic, tercel, etc, just looking for something a bit different. You know, like the Cruiser! Thoughts?

Ive got an 88 Subaru Wagon that i am selling for a Freind, She is the original owner, 188k or so, she drove it across the country twice a year for about 10 years.. Good little car, AWD with Low range.. she wants $1800 OBO, ive got a buddy with the same car, 30mpg or better!

Sent me a PM, in in Colorado springs!

Before starting the family, I drove a '92 Mitsubishi Eclipse AWD turbo. Handled better in the snow than any car I've owned. Doesn't fit your 30mpg requirement, but does get about 23 mpg and does 0 - 60 in 6.3 sec. :D

Anyone else with experience with the Justy or 323 GTX? Any other thoughts/suggestions?

I'll let you know on the wagon. Still researching and saving to pay cash. May be a couple months.
