Changing inner tie rod with only one wheel off ground...??

I am debating whether to change inner tie rods, something I may can do myself, or have mechanic replace entire rack.

Due to my gravel driveway, I am reluctant to put both wheels on jack stands so I'm wondering if I can do one side at a time or do both wheels need to be free to move ??

Does experience and Mud wisdom say.....You can significantly improve slack in steering for the money by changing just inner rods yourself...OR....You are wasting effort because you WILL need to replace the entire rack and pinion very shortly anyway.

I would personally want both front wheels of the ground as it will be easier to change when on full lock, I don't like to jack the truck up if the wheels aren't straight ahead. If you have play in the old tie rod sockets then you will see an improvement, if not it could be a waste of effort.

I think I did it with only one wheel in the air. I ordered a Moog part on Amazon, came tagged 45503-69015 and stamped "Made in Japan"
