CENTERED REAR FJ40 diff $250 obo

I have a centered rear diff off of my friends fj40, I was going to use it, but I decided to keep my dana 60,70, and put these in my cruiser.
So I was putting this out there to see if anybody is interested.
It is normal width, has fj40 pinion flange.
I don`t, and my friend doesn`t know who centered it, but they drove it all over, from Denver, to Moab, and wheeled with it, they never had any problems with it.(they used there cruiser for a buggy).
I need to check the gearing, I`am almost sure it is 4.10s.
I paid $300, I would like to get what I paid for it, $300.

i dont understand, what kind of transfer case did the cruiser have?

Pre 1963 40 series had a centered rear diff and could have come with a single speed tcase, and a four speed transmission, just like the FJ25. I have a housing at the shop from a 1962 FST 40 series that I am building...it had a three speed in it, with the rear driveshaft running at an angle...

On the FJ25s the pinion shaft was longer than on the early FJ40s. I have a early FJ40 that the drive shaft ran at an angle. If it had the FJ25 pinion the angle would have been greater. The third members can be inter-changed with any coarse diff.

yeah I m just repeating wht they said but I know also that from 63 and back the center diff was stock. Its cool!

Just a few questions:
What year?
Spline count?
Flange pattern?
Open or locked?
Drum or Disk?
SOA/SUA?

Thanks,
Kirk

my 63 stocker has the original centered diff with the fj40 style third member. dig it.

This diff has been cut and centered.

Now the price makes more sense :). Is it a mini/LC hybrid?

i would say yes. i have one of those in my "stash". uses the old style centered housing with mini outers welded on and mini shafts. i have discs on mine but obviously that was a conversion as well.

Yeah, it could have mini axles in it landcruiser 3rd.
I just didn`t want to have to tare it apart to check the inners, but I might later in a couple weeks.
I would probably take $200 for it, since I don`t know exactly whats in it.

Is There A Width Differance In Fj40 Vs. Fj55? I Have Np205 That I Was Going To Put In My 55 The Centered Diff Would Be Sweet And Cheaper Than Keeping Three Speed And Buying An Adapter. Does Anyone Know ? Thanks

No width difference that I know of, I put an FJ55 offset rear axle under a 1961 FJ40 that had a stock centered diff axle...it's still hanging around....

I thought the early crusier center axle is 2" narrower than a later 40/55 axle?

This has nothing to do with the above hybrid centered rear axle.
