Hi folks 👋

Hope I can get some help here.

On my J100, Built 11/1999, V8, I did all my service maintenance regularly. Every 15000km oil engine oil and all 60000km also differential oils and AHC fluid.

My last big maintenance included all fluid changes. Means I let replace all differential oils. It‘s been done very well.

Since that time, suddenly the center differential disengages not when pressing the button in the cockpit. It looks like the engagement works, but disengagement not. Thus, I cannot longer rely on the engage/disengagement process. Worst case it stays engaged. (Had it already and that‘s not nice situation) - I pushed the button multiple times and drove back and forth, then sudenly luckily it disengaged. I was close to an heart attack.

Had anyone similar problems with engage/disengagement process of the center differential? What can/should I do, not knowing the root cause?

Will it make sense to replace the „motor and gear“ within the center diff?

Any recommendations, I‘d like to have a reliable center diff.

Thank you 🙏

Marcel

The first things I would check are the electrical plug and wires that goe to the motor and the plugs and wires for the 2 limit switches. Any contamination in any of these plugs or wire degradation could cause the locker to malfunction.
Next would be the motor itself, although very difficult to get to and remove with the diff still in the vehicle. Probably doable though,
