I already ordered one part that was wrong, and am having issues finding information I am confident in to make sure I don't order the wrong part again...

I have a 2000 LC - I snapped the latch on the 'top' lid - ie, the lid with the leather top flops around all day and it's super aggravating.

Some things I read make me believe that you "have to" replace the entire leather center console lid. Is this the case?

This is what I ordered. This is actually for the latch for the cup holder. Not what I need.

This is what I'm not sure will work or not.

This is what I *think* I need, but can't find it for sale anywhere or a part number.

Sorry for this sort of boring thread but I failed at finding this info online.

Looks like the little latch is not able to be purchased separate. The one you found on ebay sure looks like the one in the diagram.

This looks like the other on ebay, this is the latch for the lower(bigger) compartment. (58908A on diagram)

The black plastic latch button, on the top part of the cover, that the leather is tucked under (58905-N4 in the pic above)? That Camry bit is not the part, unfortunately.

You are SOL for buying just the part, it is no longer stocked. I took the cover off mine, which requires you to unscrew the latch part, and temporarily lost it in my garage. So I looked all over online. The only option I found would be to buy a junkyard lid or one from a part-out. While it was "lost", I just sealed off the top compartment with some two-sided tape and threw the junk I kept in there in a zip-lock in the glove box... Hardly noticed it missing.

I believe what I needed is the same part (blue box in picture) as well as the top pocket that this part latches into (area in red box was damaged in my vehicle from PO using self adhesive velcro and someone removing this and scraping off the glue). Since neither part is available for purchase, I found a seller on eBay who was parting out a nice '06 LX. The pictures are from the listing. The color matches my interior, so this is an easy swap. As shown was about $160 shipped, but much cheaper than just buying the lid which IS still available and would have fixed the latch. I had considered that a few times since I bought the truck, but I would have still had the issue with the box being damaged. Although not cheap, it is worth it to me for an '06 with good interior. The PO or selling dealer had fixed it so it was functional by screwing a piece of plastic with a replacement latch to the bottom of the mechanism. It was a little peculiar and didn't allow the lid to sit all the way down. It was not really noticeable, and I could have lived with it as I have for the last 3 years, but with parts becoming harder and harder to come by and my desire to have this truck for a long time (only 150k), I decided to take care of this.

For anyone who is interested - I purchased this part from ebay: 2002 - 2006 Toyota CAMRY Lexus ES300 Console Armrest LATCH SET black upper latch, and it fit my 2006 LX perfectly. The black color was a perfect match - it is the same part.

You will need to file away some material to make it easer to get to the screws. I used a Dremel with a small router bit and removed enough to allow me to take the screws completely out of the assembly, and allow me to get a screwdriver in to tighten them back up.

This is for the top latch assembly - the blue box in the earlier post. (or the part on the right of my picture.)

Wanted to revisit this, I recently purchased the part you link to above (part# 58908-32050) which is for the lower lid of the center console. How in the heck do we find the correct latch without having to purchase the entire leather lid portion? I am guessing it is the part “N4” in the above diagram that shows cannot be serviced...

You will not find the ‘N4’ part for the 100 series sold separately. The part for the ES300 seems to be the same part. The tricky part, and likely the reason it is not available, is you will have to trim/cut some plastic to get to the screw to swap out this part. IMO, this would be easier than separating/breaking the leather portion of the lid off. I cannot help you with the ES300 part number, but used examples seem plentiful on eBay.

I know this is an old thread but I'm going to throw an idea out because I appreciate all those who have helped me by sharing their experiences. I am in the process of up-sizing from my beloved '99 4-Runner "Highlander". Picked up an '02 LC for pretty cheap. Chipping away at getting it ready for my new overland build. I am anal about everything working as is it should. Lights, latches, etc. I too have a center console where the top lid won't latch. Lots of research. There is no replacement latch. If there were, it's not easy to get to. I can't justify the $300+ to replace the lid or console. My best bet. . . Earth magnets, some washers and super glue gel. $7. I use the high strength magnets everywhere: my phone mount in all my rigs, secret compartments or access doors for high-end clients I build houses for. There are many sizes that are proportional to strength. Also, a magnet to washer is one strength. A magnet to magnet is even stronger; just be sure to the poles are lined-up properly before gluing so they actually attract one another. In this particular case, I glued two of the smallest magnets to the lid and two #6 washers to the lower base. I started by gluing the magnets to the top lid (let dry). I set two #6 washers on the magnets (no glue) then put a steel BB in the middle of the washer. I slammed the lid down onto the base a few times to make an indentation in the base to use as a guide for where to glue the washers and then did so. After everything was dry, I gave it a go. It was a little weaker than I had hoped so I decided to glue another magnet to one of the bottom washers and build up the other side with three washers to keep the planes the same so it doesn't twist the hinges when leaning on or the dog crawls over.
